One would think the threads during the offseason wouldn't be as good. I think people are setting the bar pretty high for the rest of the summer.

I was actually thinking about mentioning that too. When we don't have a QB controversy, there is something really wrong with this board or the state of ISU football is in a much better place.

For as good as Harold Nichols ended up, his first three years at Iowa State had these NCAA finishes:

T-27th, 6 qualifiers, 0 team points
T-39th, 3 qualifiers, 0 team points
T-21st, 8 qualifiers, 4 team points

Sir: if you have a history of the wrestling squad, can you rank the past 3 years in relation to the past fifty years?

Can you rank this season vs. the past 50?

I'd appreciate it.

ottopalik was a successful coach when he started in 1933.
dr. harold nichols came to iowa state in the early 1950's and produced several good teams.. dr nichols was from cresco ,iowa, which turns out some good wrestlers..
dan gable wrestled for dr. nichols and was beaten his senior year in the national championships by a soph from washington state named larry owings when the wrestling tourney was held at northwestern university. dan went on to coach at the university of iowa and was a very successful coach...since harold nichols retired we had a good coach from iowa state named jim gibbons and jim's teams were very respectable. jim left because his pay was poor-30,000 per year..then we had a coach that was not very good from arizona and the team tanked. we were able to recruit a very good wrestler named cael sanderson who was the best wrestler in iowa state history and he coached iowa state for a couple of years and left to go to penn state for a better salary....yes a better salary!!!!!!!!
since the leaving of cael,our wrestling program is a fraud once again.
we have an excellent football coach.
we have an excellent boy's basketball coach. we have one of the best ladys basketball coaches in billy fennelly.
why don't we have a good wrestling team? a poor coach,maybe???? can't we hire a wrestling coach that will bring our wrestling program back to its former heights??

should pollard be fired??

i would think that they would get dan gable back to iowa state as an assistant athletic director and let dan hire someone to shape up our wrestling program.

what r the other fanatics view on our wrestling program??? should pollard be held responsible??? we could have kept cael if pollard would have paid him a decent salary? i think pollard should have his tenure reviewed!!!

If we don't hear anything by April 1. I don't think things will change. Wouldn't be much time for finding a coach or talking to recruits.
