First day of Wrestling practice is today!

The wrestling season officially kicked off today with a morning lifting session. They tweeted a picture of the new lifting area for wrestling. It's awesome that the team now has a quality area with the renovations that were done over the summer. More mat space, a lounge for the Wrestlers, and a dedicated weight room.

With Spangler's medical retirement we don't have any big horses this year, but we have a greatly improved overall lineup combined with a much more manageable dual schedule. I'm excited for the journey to NCAAs in Des Moines next March!

Can't wait for the season to start. I like the more manageable schedule and am looking forward to what Troy Nickerson and Coach Beau (Weight coach) has brought to the table. Our team is still young, but has a year of valuable experience under their belt.

Wow! that looks great! About time they get a good update. I agree, I'm excited to see how things pan out this season.

J or Buf, have you guys heard anything on the status of Gadson? Is his injury situation chronic or will he be able to go?

Last I heard he is questionable for being ready to go at the start of the season but should be good to go by second semester.

According to CWC newsletter
125 - Finch is starter and Bauer, Larson, and Connor Clarke are backup
133 - Hallman, Shayden, and John Meeks competing for spot
141 - Goettl is starter and Gabe Moreno is backup
149 - Max Mayfield, Luke Swalla, and Matt White will compete here
157 - Trent Weatherman and Logan Molina are front runners - Aaron Sorensen and Dominic Chase in the hunt also
165 - Mike Moreno and the guy that doesn't get the 174 spot will move down
174 - Mikey England and Tanner Weatherman
184 - Boaz Beard is starter and Tyler Christensen and Quinn Wilson will challenge
197 - Cole Shafer, Kyven Gadsen and Trevor Voelker will compete for spot
Hwt - Matt Gibson is starter and Tyler Swope is backup and Quean Smith IS AT IOWA STATE.

They tweeted a pic from practice this afternoon as well.

I assume this was part of checking the new floor to make sure it wouldn't cave in...

This new facility looks like Iowa State really is serious about making their wrestling program competitive again. Looks pretty nice.

We've heard this before. Poor kid! So tough to see him struggle.

We should be a better dual team but there aren't many AAs on that roster. I'm not convinced there are any AAs on the roster. Finch and Beard have the best shots, IMHO.

Agreed, if Finch and Beard show some nice improvement I don't see why they can't AA. I'd say Goettl and Gibson have some extreme outside shots, but Goettl needs to become extremely more consistent and Gibson needs to overcome a murderous Hwt class this season.

I hope Gadsen can stay healthy and show his stuff too. He could easily make some noise.

I am interested to see how this team has improved. We have a number of things going for us. Finch, Goettl, Beard, and Gibson have been to the NCAA's and have a full year of experience on all levels. Competition at 157, 165, and 174 are going to make all those guys better. Nickerson and the S &C Coach, I believe will make positive results. The schedule is much more favorable for early season success.
Gadsen has been working hard to strengthen his shoulder and I too hope we get to see him perform.

I think we will surprise some people. England, Ta Weatherman, Goettl, Beard, Finch, Meeks, etc will be fun to watch. Can't wait for Harold Nichols Open!!!
