Can anyone explain why we are taking kids this early in the recruiting game from wrestlers with so little accolades? He went 1-2 and DNP at state last year. He lost 11 matches.
I assume he verballed as a walk on. Don't know why a kid would, but maybe he is going to Iowa State anyway and wanted to be part of the program. Just assumptions

We do this every year. I don't get it.
Because one thing we've desperately lacked is depth, so getting local talent that is willing to walk on helps a ton. This isn't like football - a guy like Austin isn't getting a full ride, he's probably walking on or at most getting a very minimum scholarship. So guys verbaling this early has no impact on the rest of our recruiting. We aren't taking depth guys instead of blue chips. We are taking them in addition to blue chips.
