Re: ***Old Dominoin Preview/Gameday Thread***
I saw this coming with the disappointing results we had in the Harold Nichols open. I was initially optimistic about this this year and was planning on taking my Son to a few meets. Now I don't see the point. Call me a fair weather fan if you like, but I am not going to pay to watch the team that I have cheered for all of these years get pummeled.

Very sad. Very sad indeed. Graduated HS with Gable. Hate to see this happening. Old Dominion? Really? Welcome to the bigs Meeks. NOW, get in shape. Sign of the times I guess. Dance around and stall then get a takedown and stall again and win. Very boring.
I am but a stranger in a strange world at my age. I miss the old days when we came out and just whipped ***** and Iowa was a WAR!. Now let us sit around the campfire holding hands and all sing "Kumbayah!" It makes me sick. IB

Out of ten matches I was expecting us to lose at 149, have a few good, tight wins (125, 141) and dominate the other seven.
Of our ten guys that went out I hold nothing against White and liked what I saw out of Moreno, Beard, and Gadson. Gadson gets a pass for being tentative at first because it was his first match coming back from a very bad injury. And by the end of the match he was doing a great job pushing the action and generating offense. If our other 9 wrestlers had looked like Gadson we would have won the meet handily.
The other 6 matches though... I rewatched the meet again this morning and we just did a horrible, horrible job of creating action. Jackson's teams usually are much more aggressive than what we saw out of Sanderson's wrestlers and that was nowhere to be seen most of the meet. ODU wrestled the "Iowa Style" of riding hard, wrestling on the edge of stalling for most of the period and then scoring a takedown at the end. And we let them. Our guys allowed the ODU wrestlers to control the match from start to finish.
As an aside, I'm not sure what to take out of Molina getting trucked like that. I wonder if the cut to 157 is too much for him. He looked like a stick out there.

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Matt White is out for a couple months with torn cartilage from ribs. I assume the same injury from intrasquad.
If Max Mayfield is out indefinitely, would the lineup be stronger with Luke Goettl at 149 and Shayden Terukina at 141? I don't know how big the cut is for Luke or if he is having trouble with the cut. I also don't know if Shayden is big enough for 141. Just food for thought and opinions.

Admitted casual wrestling fan here, but am hoping KJ gets it going this year. I really like him from what I see in his interviews, and I love his passion. Not sure how much longer we can struggle like this though if we hope to compete with Iowa.
"For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."

Who should we hire to replace KJ?

Given that it was most of the team and not just one or two guys I put the blame for that on the coaching staff. Its up to the staff to get the team back under control and have them ready to go the rest of the season. Hopefully losing yesterday and the coming boat racing from Iowa will wake them up.
The past few years we've had a lot of times where we were simply outclassed and beaten by better wrestlers and teams. But our guys usually showed up ready to wrestle and the individuals tended to wrestle at or above their abilities. That's what makes yesterday so upsetting. We wrestled below where we were capable. Far below. This year we have a team that, properly coached, is very capable of having a decent season and a respectable NCAAs in March. But the team we saw wrestle yesterday will be lucky to win more than one or two duals or even qualify more than a few guys for Des Moines.

I think concussion, but not for sure

Re: ***Old Dominoin Preview/Gameday Thread***
Couple things I heard. Tanner Weatherman weighed in because Mikey is a little dinged up. Hadn't practiced part of the week. Ankle and head issue (It was wrapped pretty heavy at Nichols open)
I also heard a couple were over weight a little more than they should have been Saturday night and had to work it off Sunday morning.
I think losing the routine of class and laying around all week affect them. But they need to fiqure it out, because they have another break and holiday coming up.
Old Dominion was ready to wrestle!!!

Re: ***Old Dominoin Preview/Gameday Thread***
Well said. I've got to think a house cleaning is in order, but when and how? Even fans that have been strong supporters of the program (this does not include those with counterproductive vendettas against the HC) cannot take this. Eventually, people just check out.
Also, I am not convinced wrestling is much of priority to JP. Began to suspect when the decision was made to keep the program in the Lied Center. Just seemed too much to be the "easy route." I'll wait for the year to play out, because it likely doesn't do any good to make a move before then. Having said that, one match into the season, it doesn't look good for KJ. I've advocated patience with him up until now, but this is definitely his make or break year. I'm not sure exactly what results are needed for him to save his job, but he needs to show "progress", however that may be defined.

But if we lose to NDSU and don't perform well at Midlands I think it would be better to cut our loses in order to avoid losing a whole recruiting class. If we do beat NDSU and do well at Midlands then the rest of the season will be his audition for a contract extension.
Coming out flat in one dual doesn't make a season. But it sure destroyed a lot of support for the program. The only way to get that back is for the team to prove that yesterday was a fluke.
