Knownothing isn't uninformed, you're all uninformed, this whole damn system is uninformed! You can't handle the truth!
Knownothing, a little hint for you: if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
From what I understand, and this hasn't been reported in a lot of articles, the elimination of wrestling is just a recommendation from the IOC council. It still has to be approved by the IOC General Assembly. And from gaging the reaction just from the US, I have to believe other countries are going to rally around wrestling to remain included.
Baseball was eliminated as a sport because of the lack of widespread national support worldwide. Baseball continues to be somewhat of an expensive niche sport. Olympic host cities were forced to build expensive baseball venues for a sport that might have had no foothold in the country. Athens' baseball stadium sits unused.
How many college wrestling teams are D1? How many compared to oh say like Womens VolleyballQuote:
Championships were on ESPN for me, there moron. The AA rounds were also on ESPN2 in the morning. You see, once again you do nothing but live up to your name. You have nothing backing any statement except your limited brain. And it is quite limited. Here are some facts about wrestling participation. The internet, what a wonder.
ignoring Politics, corruption, etc. if the IOC really wanted to "streamline" the Olympics, cutting down on some of these qualifying events (shown in Blue) would help.
sports like Basketball, Field Hockey, Football, Handball, and Water Polo have 2 weeks of events before their finals, only to have 2 medals each.
Modern Pentathlon is actually surprisingly efficient, 2 days 2 medals.
from Wikipedia, the 2012 Olympic Events schedule:
For those wondering about baseball, there appears to be a net gain in teams across all divisions.
Note that the number of members is also increasing for each division. For wrestling in D-II, the number of teams did not increase (14) by more than the increase in number of members (19). For baseball in D-II and D-III, the number of teams increased (32 and 27) by more than the increase in number of members (19 and 19). For D-I baseball, the number of teams did not increase (8) by more than the increase in number of members (19).
USA Today thinks they made the wrong call as well:
Five Olympic sports that should have gone before wrestling
Knownothing will assure you that they are uninformed.
There are 95 wrestling teams. Compared to 311 womens volleyball teams. Meaning wresling is going down. The Olypics cancelling it is just one more thing.
I remember either last year or the year before ISU was ranked 24th in the Country in Wrestling. That was after like an 0-5 start. WTH
