Re: Olympics drop wrestling
Considering wrestling is one of the original Olympic events from the First Olympics, this is some ********

Re: Olympics drop wrestling
That is the one place I though wrestling would always be. I figured college would drop wrestling first.

Re: Olympics drop wrestling
There are a whole lot of sports I'd drop before wrestling, and I'm not even that big of fan.

Re: Olympics drop wrestling
The scoring system makes it very boring. They need to adopt the US college style.

Re: Olympics drop wrestling
that is pathetic. Its hard to have tv ratings when they never show it on TV.
Maybe it will make the sport stronger.... but I'm hoping that they will add it back in at the next meeting.
Funny how they only have one spot. So many sports that they can kill, but they choose wrestling. What a bunch of tools.

Well this isn't until 2020 so there is still time for college to drop it first. With the way conference expansion is moving, there hasn't been much care of whether the sport survives. Outside of the Big10, OSU and several NE schools there isn't a big draw for it.
10 years ago I wouldn't believe that ISU would drop wrestling and now I'm not so sure. If the Big12 ever drops Wrestling (it was pretty close until WV joined), l can see ISU following. We are already at the low numbers for the number of sports we participate in. If wrestling no longer counts on that list it may be hard to keep it if we have another round of budget issues.

Riding time in college wrestling is going to kill it too unless they start calling stalling (or stalemate) more often.

Re: Olympics drop wrestling
This is very bad for wrestling... I, like many others, started wrestling at a very young age. It was by far the first competitive event I ever participated in. I had organized practices every other night as a first grader. Turns out I wasn't so hot at it, but I learned a ton and continued with it through 6th grade. In junior high I switched to basketball... Tore my acl 2nd day of 8th grade practice. Should have stuck with wrestling.
Not sure what to think of this.

They analyzed their ad performance and viewership and came to these conclusions. It's sad, but table tennis probably had more viewers. Archery? Shooting? Golf? Equestrian? Squash?
