What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
The world's craziest crazy golf course? - CNN.com
Golf. Cm'n Man, who needs golf in the Olympics? Are they forcing the Chinese to take up golf for new courses. I prefer wrestling in the Olympics by far. And I golf.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
I'm not really a wrestling fan, but I don't agree with removing it from the games.

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
My problem with Golf in the olympics and even Basketball, Hockey and those types now, is that it's just a big pro-athlete get together. At least in wrestling, that was pretty much the pinnacle in any person's wrestling career. For the pros though, the chance to compete for a gold medal is just another notch in the belt, it really takes away from the Olympic spirit imo.

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
It's not unheard of for sports to come and go from the Olympics, some day wrestling will probably come back

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
I just don't get this move. I love golf but it doesn't belong in the olympics. I still don't get Modern Pentathalon or Show Jumping getting to stay, and removing Wrestling...

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
It's just ******* stupid, that's what it is. Wrestling has been an Olympic sport since the original run from Marathon in ancient Greece. I don't even like wrestling very much, but seriously-- **** the IOC.

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
I don't really care which sport gets removed, but Modern Pentathlon and Equestrian are among the oldest events remaining.

It's all about ticket sales and TV sets.......Wrestling wasn't a big draw
-- the Big Ten added Maryland and Rutgers to their conference for the TV sets......i.e. cable subscribers onthe eastern seaboard
As long as Jim Delaney can once again use strongarm and thug tactics on the cable providers out there to add the BTN, they're golden
Wrestling in Olympics? a tougher sell for TV

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
If the ioc reinstates wrestling, they certainly found a way to revive a dying sport. As a wrestling fan myself, nothing has brought national attention to the sport like this.

Re: What Replaced Wrestling in the Olympics
What's ironic is that ISU has an alum on the IOC Executive Committee in Nawal El Matawakel. She made history in 1984 becoming the first Muslim female gold medal winner. She was still at ISU in 1987 when the wrestlers won the NCAAs, so she has to know how important wrestling has been to her alma mater. Hopefully, she did not vote to remove it.

Is it the sport's fault that the dipwads at NBC don't air any of it?

Is it the sport's fault that the dipwads at NBC don't air any of it? America isn't the only country broadcasting the Olympics. Tens of millions of people watched the average wrestling match in the Olympics.
