Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
SetonHallPirate's Dual Impact Index from over on TheMat. As I said last week, he uses an algorithm so gets better as the season goes on. He ranks every wrestler based on their actual results for the season to date. Origional posted here: The Mat Forums • View topic - 2/25/13 Takedown Wrestling Media Dual Impact Index . Consider this like a BCS computer ranking for Wrestling.

ISU remains at 20th in the USA Today poll.

Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
It seems like TheMat favors our ranked guys more than Intermat does..Does the NCAA use Intermat's rankings?
-
Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
They techinically don't use any polls, but the coaches poll and RPI.

Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
Good to see us ranked again. Hadn't we fallen out of the top 25 for awhile?

Originally Posted by howellc33 It seems like TheMat favors our ranked guys more than Intermat does..Does the NCAA use Intermat's rankings? The NCAA uses a three part system to determine qualifiers. 29 spots are pre-allocated based on
-Being in the 29 of the coaches poll
-Being in the top 29 of RPI
-.700 Win percentage against D-1 competition
Wrestlers who meet two of those three criteria are "pre-qualifiers" and earn an allocation at their weight for their conference tournament. With the caveat that the NCAA can adjust any of those numbers up or down in order to reach exactly 29 qualifiers for each weight. So to feel comfortable a wrestler really needs to be in the top 25/26 or so of the coaches poll and RPI.
The coaches poll is separate from Intermat. I post Intermat here because it is usually the first poll to be updated weekly. But there are also weekly polls from amateur Wrestling News, D1CollegeWrestling.net, Flowrestling, and others.
A link to the last coaches poll/RPI is below. A new one should come out today or tomorrow. That will be the one used to determine conference NCAA qualifier allocations. It's worth noting that for RPI there were a lot of wrestlers (including half our team) that were not eligible for the last RPI due to not having enough matches. Most of these wrestlers now have the minimum number of matches for RPI, so while the new Coaches Poll probably won't change a whole lot the RPI will look significantly different. NCAA releases second coaches' rankings and first RPI of season - NCAA.com
If it helps to make more sense, here is a link to last year's conference allocations: Qualifier allocations announced - NCAA.com .

Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
Many of the Big 10 wrestler from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Penn State, etc that weren't in the RPI before and qualified now will probably be in the top 33. The Big 10 schedule is tough, but if they lost, they good be dropping in the coaches poll also.

Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
Thanks for the info. I don't follow wrestling too closely but always like to look at the rankings to see how we are doing.

Re: 2/25 Wrestling Rankings
I still think that if I was an opponent, I would not want to Mike Moreno and Tanner Weatherman right now. They could pull an upset against about anybody. I personally think both are better than their ranking.
