Re: African-American Grapplers Honored

When the wrestling room was upstairs in Beyer some of the wrestlers would come down and play in pick up basketball games. I used to play alot of bball with Willie Gadson who would always be down there playing. I wonder if anyone here knows what Willie and his brother Charlie are up to now??

I was in the Beyer weight room once when Nate Carr walked in and started working out. The man was an animal.

Someone told me that his son will be a Cyclone next season. Anyone know anything about his son?

I also saw Mike Van Arsdale on the list. I worked with him for a couple of semesters at ISU and he was a nice guy. I have a UFC dvd with one of his fights. Is he still fighting?

Nate Carr Jr. will be attending Iowa State next season. There is a good chance that Reader will move up to 174 and Nate Carr Jr. will start at 165.

ISU2007, does Jon have to cut a lot of weight to make 165 and would 174 would be more of the proper weight for him??

I loved watching Nate Carr wrestle. Also, I didn't realize Kevin Jackson never won a NCAA title.

He doesn't look like a big 165, but he does have a good size frame, and his father is a bigger man. I think Jon would grow into 174 next year and be and title contender by his junior year. He might even be one next year.

I think the move would be more of a team thing (Varner is looking to move to 197 to make room for another tough freshman - Jerome Ward). Reader would be the best option at 174 next year, unless Billy Lewis of Bettendorf improves in the offseason.
