Re: NCAA Qualifiers - by school
Why does the Big 1025 get so many bids? I thought only the top 4 places winners from the conference tounry went. It shouldnt matter how many teams are in you conference. Its not like they are twice as good as every other conference.
With ISU having 10 going they have a shot to win it all.

72 spots, 65 wrestlers ranked in the Top 20, 37 in the top 8, for 11 teams, most of which are ranked in the Top 15 in the nation.
Big 12 gets 38 for 5 teams. That's a better % than the big ten.
The EIWA gets 47 qualifiers and just 18 wrestlers in the top 20...that's the crock this year.

Re: NCAA Qualifiers - by school
76% of the B12 wrestlers will qualify for nationals (38 of 50). 65% of the Big Ten wrestlers will qualify for nationals (72 of 110).

that IS crock. wow. how does that happen? I mean - the number of qualifiers is determined on the number of teams your conference has...but also on past performance in the ncaas, right? so...the EIWA? what the hell?

. That assumes that you actually count MSU and maybe even Purdue. A couple of weak teams at the bottom shouldn't be used to put the middle bubble teams in a better position.

That's 73% of the conference, and 67% of the top 12. Indiana was 18th
The Big 12 had 5 in the top 17. And its a great league for how many teams it has in. Jake Patacsil (Purdue) at 149 is All American worthy. They have a top 20 wrestler at 174. Franklin Gomez of MSU at 133 is a national title contender. Joe Williams at 197 is top 16, four rungs below Bertolino.
They are not great programs, no. But there is a considerable gap between the strength coming out of the Big Ten and the strength from other leagues.
If that's by sheer size, that is fine; but they back it up with quality.
Throw out two teams...nine teams, 90 wrestlers, going for 72 spots. That's 80% That's very, very close to the same percentage the B12 has with 38 of 50 (76%). So close that the argument is almost moot.
