Re: If Iowa starts another Dynasty (heaven forbid) ...

I was around before and for the squawk dynasty and it was not a pretty sight. If you want to destroy wrestling just have one team dominate the sport for ten years or so. Is it any wonder that the big 12 only has a few schools that still wrestle!!

Competition and different champs helps foster any and all sports ...

College wrestling "had" interest when other teams had a chance at winning the title . . you can kiss all that goodbye.

And to JonMiller . . you love the hate? How immature and revealing.

Jeremy . . come on. You can't be serious. If Iowa dominates the sport will be dead (what happened to interest when Gable coached all those championships). This is a narrow interest sport as is . . and while Iowa will be patting itself on the back for "another NC" . . the sport will be on life support. I then look for more schools to drop out also.

Do you really think that a team being too good will eliminate the sport? I mean, that would be cool and everything for Iowa fans, "Hey, other schools were just too afraid to wrestle us!"

But no, that's not how it works. Sports like gymnastics, tennis, golf, swimming, lacrosse, etc... will be dead sports before wrestling will be. I'm not aware of any other non Big Three (basketball, football, and hockey in the northern states) sports have championship events that draw 16,000 fans.

ISU Student - Iowa fan. Best of both worlds.

To say I love the hate means Iowa is back to winning, and when they were winning, they were hated. So I love the hate, because it means Iowa is winning again.

And just three teams have won national titles in the last 19 years of wrestling. It's already a dominated sport by just a couple of teams.

Re: If Iowa starts another Dynasty (heaven forbid) ...

As a cyclone fan I don't mind seeing Iowa win it, they wanted it and had talent to do so, we should have wanted it just a bit more last year and we would have won it. We cannot blame Iowa for keeping us from winning last year or in the future, lets just find a way to seal the deal.

I cannot strees this enough: I do not want Ohio State any part of the national championship picture in the future. Do to their enormous resources, that school will spend and do whatever they need to do to buy a title. In my opinion I like Iowa State first then Iowa, I would not mind seeing Oklahoma get another since their last title was in 1974. IA ISU and Oky have a long way to go to catch OK State.

I like Brands, he is a bit kooky, but that adds fun to it, plus when they win it is really like a family member wins it. A good number of hawk fans were behind us 100% when we had a chance to take it from Minny last year . Lets just want it more next year, we have the talent and plenty coming in.

From a team standpoint - battles to be second-best aren't as cared about.
What will help is getting some east coast wrestling teams to compete for national titles, might spur more interest from ESPN and help foster wrestling nation wide.

That's one reason why I haven't watched much golf this year. I respect the hell outta Tiger, but I wouldn't mind some diversity. I'm surprised to level of golf hasn't risen lately to his level. Sad.

Only because they hate the Gophers more than ISU.

Will EIU have to share their title with Va. Tech? With the Va. Tech coach and half of their team now wrestling for Iowa I would assume they will be shipping the trophy between Blacksburg and Iowa City?

The only reason anyone would wrestle at Iowa State is because of Cael.

What may help ("snowball's chance in hell" alert) more is schools bucking the trend and ADDING the sport. For example, high school wrestling in Texas is growing at an amazing rate. Schools like UT and A&M have millions of dollars just sitting around.

High school wrestling in Kansas is pretty big too (Zach Roberson ring a bell?), but there's no in-state place for those kids to go. Kansas and K-State each had wrestling in the past.

I really wish the Big 12 had about 9 teams instead of 5. Or better yet, forget the Tejas schools and somehow get KU, KSU and CU to re-introduce the sport. Aaahhhh, the old Big Eight.

The real question that bothers me is, 'will Cael make ISU into a dynasty?

Only 3 teams in the last twenty years have won titles . . .so JonMiller . . how many div one schools have dropped the sport in the last twenty years. You prove my point.

You had better hope some of the other schools that "are afraid of wrestling Iowa" . . win some of those future titles.

JonMiller . . "only reason to wrestle at ISU is because of Cael". . wow. How revealing.
