I'd say it's a great get when you get someone that will immediately be in the top 3, top 10 at the very worst, and have 3 years left.

If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.

If that is the logic then we should take away Varner's money and give it to the guy from Ohio State that beat him (the name escapes me right now) or since Metcalf lost once, Brands should let him go and go after the guy that beat Metcalf. Also I'm pretty sure Brands would use all the money allotted to him for the year and wouldn't bank any. So if Covington didn't get it I'm sure he was recruiting someone else.

As much as I hate to say it, I also think it is a great get for the Hawks. They just went from not having a national qualifier at 165 next year to possibly having an All American. He won't score 25 points like Perry did, but it did soften the blow of losing Perry.

Huh? That's quite a twist on what I said.....
You even confirmed my point with this one:

That was my point..... Brands wanted the guy (a guy our guy can beat and DID beat) to walk on and he may have, if we hadn't gone after him. By Cael offering the guy, Brands was forced to spend money he could have used on someone else. That "someone else" that may have gotten an offer with $$$ may be off the board for iowa now.

As for all the "take Varner and Metcalf's money and give it to......" stuff, that has nothing to do with what I said.

I would have loved to have the guy in our room, but whether he's a GREAT get or not, time will tell. He is definitely not a lock for top 3 or top 10 or AA status until he proves it week in and week out vs. D1 talent. He may be great and he's certainly better than the empty hole iowa had at 165, but for now, that's all he is.... another guy with real nice potential. The NCAA wrestling rooms are littered with guys who had/have tons of potential and never made their mark.
