Recruiting class?

Do we just have Carr and Long and now hopefully Covington as new wrestlers into the program?

Also what weights does anyone think that these three could wrestle at at ISU?

Re: Recruiting class?

I was wondering about this last week so I did a little digging. Here's a link to what I found: http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...tml#post415450 (Friday Morning Session)

I came up with Eric Thompson (HWT) , Andrew Long (125) , Chris Spangler (174) and Nate Carr, Jr. (157). I couldn't figure out who all signed though. With Aaron Scott graduating, that leaves a hole to fill at 174. If we actually get Covington, Spangler, and Carr, 157-174 would have a ton of competition (Reader, Sanderson, Covington, Spangler, Carr). I'm really excited about next year.

Re: Recruiting class?

Thats right I forgot about Thompson and Spangler. What I like about our recruiting is that we are getting a wide range of weight guys.

Re: Recruiting class?

Yeah, me too. Plus I love that Thompson is going to RS behind Big Z. HWT is going to be stacked for years to come. :) :) :)

Re: Recruiting class?

ISU2007, how many scholarships are allowed in wrestling and do we give out half-scholarships?? It seems like they used to have half-schollies in baseball here and I wondered if they did that in other sports.
I might be totally off base with the baseball half-scholarship thing because I can't remember where I heard about it.

Is Ridge Kiley going to have a chance ever make varsity? I was very surprised when I heard that he was going to ISU to wrestle.

I believe it is 9.9 Scholarships on any one team. And yes, we do give out half-scholarships.

Mark Kist and Ridge Kiley are from Eagle Grove, IA. Ridge will be a solid workout partner for Clark/Kist/Long.

Re: Recruiting class?

ISU2007, Have you heard anything on moving up Reader and Varner to make room for Ward and Carr?

I think Varner could move up but I really, really like Reader at 165 next year. 184 is going to stacked next year so moving Varner up to 197 might make it easier for him.

Yes, Varner and Reader should be moving up. Reader at 174 could be a better fit for him. He was one of the tallest 165s this year and his dad is a bigger sized guy. I can see him growing into the weight very well next year.

As for who will replace Reader and Varner, Ward should be the man at 184. 165 could feature a wrestle off of two 2007 National JUCO Champs both from Iowa Central. Although not confirmed yet, Colby Covington 165 National JUCO Champ could be a Cyclone next season. Carr Jr. was the 157 National JUCO Champ and he has a verbal to Cael.

I ran into Colby in St. Louis and he is very excited about being a Cyclone. Both Covington and Carr Jr. would have three years of eligibilty left.

Re: Recruiting class?

i think reader should move up, too. at the beginning of the season, when he was whoopin everyone he looked really solid. toward the end, it seemed like he was havin a harder time staying down or something, because he really seemed to lose a lot of muscle and didnt appear to be in as good of shape. these are just my opinions, so feel free to disagree. but i think reader should be at 165.

Re: Recruiting class?

Are we sure Colby is going to ISU? I heard that Brands got him to switch to Iowa.
