Kind of off topic here and I don't mean to hijack the thread so go ahead and ignore this, but- that statement reminds me of 7th grade when we found out our Foreign Language class was being cancelled...in the middle of the semester. We walked into the class right after lunch one day and the teacher told us she just found out about it. It was kind of weird though because we still had to go "to the class" and the teacher was still there every day for the rest of the semester, but she just didn't teach us German and Spanish anymore. We would use the class as basically another study hall, or we would all go for a walk or something.
Anyways, carry on...

Terrible decision. I'm a girl and I hate it when schools pull the "Title IX" card. Yes, ASU claimed that this is financial but if it was purely finances it wouldn't be only men's sports being dropped.

Seriously. ASU dropping wrestling. How does that even make sense? I'm getting pretty p.o.ed about schools dropping this sport under a facade (Oregon and now ASU) like a lack of funding and/or Title IX "issues."

I feel bad for Coach Thom Ortiz. I worked with wrestling when Ortiz was on Bobby Douglas' staff and he always treated me well. I just looked at their roster and I see Zach Roberson was an assistant coach. I wish both the best of luck...

And they wouldn't be spending millions for an indoor practice facility where it rarely snows.

Wow this is a big one they won a championship the year after ISU's last one, they are also the last team to win beside the big 3 and one of only 5 teams to win in the last 30 plus years.

That's crazy... I'm speechless.

Exactly. The reasoning for dropping the sport is preposterous. ASU wrestling has a large fan club, and saying there isn't enough following while building their new football facility ia insane. More insane than Oregon dropping wrestling because Oregon Stat is doing well in baseball. This bleeding has to be stopped and soon or else ISU wrestling will be in danger of being cut as well.

Re: Arizona State axes wrestling, 2 other men's sports
In Arizona, there were 5,474 high school wrestlers according to the 2006-07 participation numbers posted by the NFHS. .... Arizona State does sponsor women’s water polo, a sport, according to the NFHS, fielded zero high school programs in Arizona. Not a single rostered athlete on the women’s water polo team is from Arizona. Not one.
interesting side note there ....

And to think that Drake's athletic director was the protege of this one. -

It could end up being the Big 16 some day 5 Big 12 teams and 11 Big 10 teams.
