Recruits - (Taylor)

What are the odds the top recruits, including Tyler, follow Cael? I would assume some of the current wrestlers will follow but from a future perspective I am more worried about the redshirted freshmen class and incoming freshmen class. Any word? I would assume that Cael doesn't have enough scholarships to take all the good ones with him.

Thoughts? Any reports?

I think you are on to the real big concern out of all of this. ISU can possibly get a better 'in the room' coach than Cael. We'll never get a better recruiter, but a better coach is possible. At that point we'll find out if slightly lower level of talent can have better results with slightly better technical/emotional coaching.

With that being said, we are probably going to be looking at some real tough years after next year (I think it's unlikely any seniors to be will leave). If I were to gues, I would expect Thompson to go to PSU with Cael. Spangler probably will leave but might not head to PSU. I think Long will stay. David Taylor will end up at PSU, and I think Weatherman (at least according to a post on the Hawk board) will now go to Iowa with or without release (it doesn't really matter as he will redshirt next year). The loss of those four guys, which might be the minimum losses, are going to really, really hurt for a couple of years. It really sucks.

wouldn't varner have any sense of loyalty to his teamates? I mean, geez, with him they might be looking at a team title.

If ISU can get the right coach, we might not lose as many of the recruits as some would think. I work with Weathermans uncle and will talk with him tomorrow and get a little inside info. As far as who could be the guy to keep these recruits in the fold? Two names come to mind, but I won't mention them because I don't want to jinx it.

I heard that he could, but I believe it has been kaboshed in the past. I think if he wanted to, looking for a release would be his best bet. JP has a history of granting them it seems, but I find it hard to think that he would do that here.

Other rumor I've heard is that Gibbons is close to being named interim HC, but considering the way he went out I doubt it is true.

Just curious why Varner would even want to transfer? I have no doubt that a lot guys could, but why?

Cael made Varner because Cael (along with Z and Bertolino) was his practice partner. That is one reason he MIGHT want to transfer. Not saying he does, but a guy on themat.com says he does.
