Assumptions of administrative problems...
From Cael's blog: "I am grateful that Jamie Pollard gave me a chance to coach and for the outstanding support he gave me and the program along the way. ISU is lucky to have Jamie Pollard."
...So Cael's either lying through his teeth, taking the high road, or the assumptions are just plain wrong. (Not that this really matters if you've already made up your mind.) -
Re: Assumptions of administrative problems...
I hope he is not lying through his teeth. I'm going to continue to support Pollard, but with caution. We need to make sure we hold JP accountable, same as the coaches. Support the good things he does, question the things that need to be questioned, demand answers for the things that should not have happened, and don't get blinded by pure hate (Monty Burns).

Re: Assumptions of administrative problems...
Well said. ADs are hired to make difficult decisions. JP made hires that looked good at the time. We were happy when he hired Cael and prevented him from being the next Gable. I won't feel bad if he is sucessful at PSU. That will mean he is beating the Hawks. I am sure we will get a quality coach.

He's taking the high road. It's not that they've butted heads or don't get along, but rather that some of Pollards decisions have put ISU in a real bind and limits what can be done with the wrestling program.
I'm not saying there are best friends or anything but the amount of personal animosity between JP and Cael is pretty small.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk,superdorf, clones_jer. That is all. -

When something like this happens and people feel hurt or dissappointed they need some one to blame because there has to be someone to blame...

Re: Assumptions of administrative problems...
Nice write up.
About says it all. Modest pay increase, some intangibles which he liked about the program.
I'll miss him, but time to move on.

Constantly responding negatively about anything to do with Iowa State is a sign of one or two things. Anger management issues, or you/he really don't love this school. You don't like Pollard, fine, but why does that translate into negativity about everything that ISU does?

Re: Assumptions of administrative problems...
It comes down to $$$. If Cael left for $500k/year, then it was a no brainer for Cael and Pollard. If Cael left for $150k/year, then there was no reason to leave. ISU has a better chance to win a Title then PSU.
