ISU vs Iowa POST Nationals Thread

Dryburn I said what Metcalf did was classless how is that defending him? I said I hope you would beat us sometimes to make it more intresting. Metcalf is the only one that has shown disrespect more then once and I said I disagree with it. How is Brands disrespectful? This is an honest question, he does what any good coach would do, he defends his wrestlers. Other coaches argue calls as well. I mean no disrespect to the ISU wrestling program getting on here I just heard stuff was mentioned about Metcalfs actions and got on to check it out and then saw people saying Iowa is bad for wrestling and felt the need to defend us.

So you think school's are cutting wrestling because they can't beat Iowa? Or could it be for financial reasons?

Iowa has won 22 of the last 35 national titles and every year over 100,000 people will go to the national tournament over 3 days. So Iowa being dominate isn't stopping people from attending the tournament.

The Big 12 is dying? They only had 5 schools with wrestling when the conference was formed and they still have 5.

The only thing that really irritates me is that Iowa fans don't see an issue with the way the hawkeyes "celebrate" or whatever they do. Even last year when Metcalf shoves that dude for pulling the upset (yes, I know he was celebrating, but still, be better than that), they were DEFENDING it.

I think this ISU team is going to get a record 4th straight Big 12 championship and really compete come tourney time.

Or rather just wake up. This is what irritates me about fans (ours, yours, everyone's) . They seriously can't see their way out of their own self absorption. They don't see it or care because they are Iowa fans. Man alive I spent about 8 months on here reading about what a great character The Chiz was and then...................

After that I read about Cael Sanderson and then.................

I wasn't here when ISU had their "character" issues with the football team but I can only imagine the rationalizing. I mean seriously even in this thread Varner's action were inexcusable but................Hey either they are or they aren't. Yet let one of your guys jilt you and they are the Anti-******.

Get over it. Seriously do you guys watch sports. This crap happens at ISU and everywhere. If you really care quit watching. And finally the old tried and true everyone hates Iowa. Honestly I don't even watch much wrestling anymore but I can't tell someone that I am from Iowa without them gushing about the Iowa wrestling program. Get a grip and quit making things up. I mean it is wrestling, one of the most egomaniacal, machismo sports in history. And as bad as Metcalf was last year Caldwell was over the top. Let it go man.

We get it, you hate Iowa. By the way I'm not condoning it and honestly I don't watch it enuff to care. I'm also not defending Iowa fans as 85% of our fan bases are mostly identical IMO.

On Sound Off, they just showed the end of the Metcalf match, including the post-match gesture. It was the first time that I had seen it. It appeared that he did it while walking back to his bench area and going by Brands. I expected that he would have been looking at his ISU competitor or the ISU bench, but he didn't seem to be. It all seems pretty stupid and unnecessary for someone who would probably like to be remembered for his wrestling wins.

I'm happy to see ISU ratchet up the *** hole meter. Its a by product of finally being able to compete with Iowa.

basically what we have in this thread is a 50-50 split of people that watch wrestling 1-2 times a year(national duals and the iowa dual), and people that follow it throughout the year. i'm not sure how to put this cause i don't want to turn off the fringe fan, but some of you need to lighten up.

as far as gable, i hate listening to him during this matchup, but to say he isn't a great ambassador to the sport is ridiculous, and frankly, i won't waste my time arguing about it with someone because it is nonsense.

So let me make sure I'm understanding the consensus here:

Iowa is ruining the sport and is going to take it into oblivion because nobody can beat them so to save the sport they should start throwing duals and tournaments to save wrestling.

I'm not so sure the Yankee's have ruined baseball.
I'm not so sure the Lakers are ruining the NBA.

I'm just having a really tough time understanding your logic here but let me give it a shot.......since ISU can't beat Iowa you want them to let ISU win and that will save wrestling?

I think most posters don't want the gestures, screaming, jumping up and down like an idiot and interrupting the actual whistle to whistle action that EIU brings to the mat. The wrestlers are truly excellent.
