1 bonus point for major decision and tech. fall without back points.
1.5 bonus points for tech. fall with back points.
2 bonus points for fall/forfeit/DQ (but NOT for a bye).
You only get the advancement/placement points from a bye if you win your next match, unless it's the last match (one of the 4 placement matches). Actually, I'm not sure what would happen with a bye in later rounds.
1 point for advancement in championship bracket *until* the final.
1/2 point for advancement in consolation bracket *except* the "placement" matches.
Placement points (they get awarded as you earn guaranteed spots):
1st 16
2nd 12
3rd 10
4th 9
5th 7
6th 6
7th 4
8th 3
If in the Championship bracket you win:
Pigtail Round 1 -- 1 point (most wrestlers have a bye and need to win round 1 to collect this point).
Round 1 -- 1 point (plus most wrestlers get to collect the 1 point from the pigtail round bye).
Round 2 -- 1 point.
Quarterfinals -- 7 points (advancement point plus guaranteed 6th (and All American)).
Semifinals -- 7 points (advancement point plus guaranteed 2nd).
Finals -- 4 points (no advancement point).
If in the Consolation bracket you win:
Pigtail Round 1 -- 0.5 points (most wrestlers have a bye and need to win the next round to collect).
Round 1 -- 0.5 points (most wrestlers will also collect the 0.5 points from the pigtail round bye).
Round 2 -- 0.5 points.
Round 3 -- 0.5 points.
Round 4 -- 3.5 point (advancement plus guaranteed 8th (and All American)).
Cons. Quarterfinals -- 3.5 points (advancement plus guaranteed 6th).
Cons. Semifinals -- 3.5 points (advancement plus guaranteed 4th).
Cons. Finals -- 1 point (3rd place but no advancement).
5th place match -- 1 point (5th place but no advancement).
7th place match -- 1 point (7th placebut no advancement).
credit to Melvin for correcting me in the other thread.
May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)
Last year, I spent an afternoon trying to figure out how they calculated the points for the ncaa's. It blows my mind how close ISU actually came to winning that tournament last year.
I did not know that about the Round 1 scoring and the pigtails. Thanks for the info.
Hey, if you have any information on how the Big 12's are scored, I would greatly appreciate it. I wasted 2 hrs banging my head aginst the wall trying to figure those scores out.
I'm sure they will be in Ames next year (finally) and I will follow them closely. Thanks again for the info.
