The point being, I think it's a pretty safe bet all of those kids end up at Iowa if Brands was at Iowa at the time. And it's also pretty likely, I'd think, that even if Brands wasn't at Iowa, but wasn't coaching anywhere, that all the Iowa kids would've gone to Iowa.

I would think the smart money is on OSU next year, but I'm never shocked to see Iowa at or near the top. They do have an awful lot to replace. They might be able to replace a couple of those guys next year, but not even close to replacing all of them.
I can see an argument for the two class claim. Not from the VT wrestlers, they obviously went to wrestle for Brands regardless of where he was. My question is whether the guys that went to Iowa that year would have actually ended up at Iowa. Zalesky still recruited a full class and I doubt they would have had the scholarships available to offer to the VT wrestlers and the guys that Iowa brought in. Even if Brands were at Iowa at the time, he couldn't have brought in the number of guys that he currently has in this Senior class. He just doesn't have the scholarships to go around. Take away just one of those wrestlers and give them to ISU, Cornell, or OSU and it may be a completely different story.

You can split scholarships up in wrestling. He also ran some guys out.

For one thing there is only like 50 teams in Wrestling. There are Hundreds in Basketball. Way more impressive to do this in basketball.
Heck, I wouldn't doubt if there was just one conference in wrestling (b10) and a few independents in 10 years so winning the national title will be like winning your conference.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum....

Wrestling is making a comeback. What Iowa has done is impressive no matter how many teams their are I think there are 85 or so teams. MMA is having an impact in a good way on the sport.

Short man disease....... I think when you win an Olympic gold your probably a bad ***, but I don't know maybe you could beat him up. I won't even get started on the 2 classes its a good excuse though I guess. Take Metcalf and Borchell out, are only two from VT and we still double the amount of AA you have this year so that excuse doesn't work very well sorry.

Your right. after looking there are around 85 teams. But I haven't even heard of some of the schools. At colleges and Universities, When budgets come a knocking......Mens sports go a flocking.

Most colleges that are left with wrestling are serious about it. It doesnt cost that much to have a wrestling team for many of these schools. It is a good nicth sport for them.

I'm pretty sure they didn't keep everyone around. If I recall, the room actually got a bit smaller when Brands showed up for that first year.

It will be NC 35, 36, & 37 for them if they do. I agree with your statement except someone odd like Cornell might be in there too, and one wild-card will be where Sanderson has PSU by then. I do like what Jackson is doing, but he had bad performances by too many of his wrestlers this weekend, hopefully he learns and makes adjustments and his recruits get it done in the future.

What if you won an Olympic Gold Medal in curling? Does that still qualify as being a bad ***?

Of course Brands gave him a death look, you don't ask him a question like that! Anyone in wrestling knows that. He doesn't admit to owning it until the trouphy is in his hands and in the record books. It shows in his wrestlers, they don't stop until it is over unlike what we have done the past 2 days. Maybe we can learn something from him.

I think it's probably OSU's for the taking next year as well. But who knows two years from now. A lot of it will come down to matchups in weight classes as usual.

I'm still not completely sold on Cornell, they're too top heavy to be a NC I think. FWIW I think that's also our problem.
