So what happens to ISU Wrestling
Even if we stay in the big 12 there will be no teams...NU gone and Okie State gone.
MWC= No Wrestling.
All the wrestling is in the big 10...and couple teams in the PAC10.

Mizzou is an open question yet, right?
Is it that difficult to wrestle without a conference? How does UNI do it? Seems many of these meets are more of the tourney variety anyway.

Re: So what happens to ISU Wrestling
They should just shut it down and release all the grapplers to Iowa. -

I think wrestling will be just fine. I really do, but I'm no wrestling expert. But I see schools like Cornell, Boise State and UNI as national players in wrestling. And those aren't BCS schools.

ISU could do something similar if all the other wrestling teams bailed. If the number of Big 12 wrestling teams becomes 3 or less, the conference might consider inviting the Western Wrestling Conference teams to merge in, in order to keep the number of qualifiers for the NCAA nationals up.
It would be nearly impossible to wrestle for national championships as an independent.

They want there to be only one major university in this state....and that is Iowa, the goal and hope of IOwa fans and the powers can turnof ISU into a lower tier Universiy, lower even than UNI. No competition either athletically OR ACADEMICALLY for Iowa. Watch what Branstead does, an Iowa alum, never any support for ISU.

I think we would see the same competition during the regular season that we do now, the only difficulty would be qualifying for nationals. That doesn't necessarily require being in a conference. There are some "regional" qualifiers that are not separated by conference. Re: So what happens to ISU Wrestling
ISU probably has enough power to wrestle as an independent and be just fine.

In order to wrestle for the national championship, you really need to get 8-10 qualifiers. Take a look at the finishing order this year, and take a look at how far the point total for the first independent is from the top five. I really like winning big 12 titles and you can't do that be independent.
