AMES, Iowa – Iowa State’s All-American libero Caitlin Nolan was named to the 2015 Big 12 Preseason Volleyball Team, the conference announced Thursday. Nolan, a 2014 All-Big 12 selection and the 2014 Big 12 Libero of the Year, was one of five unanimous selections to the squad.
Nolan, a senior from Southlake, Texas, became the 11th player under Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch to earn an All-America honor. Nolan’s 2014 was one of the top seasons by a libero in Iowa State history. She finished 2014 ranked atop the Big 12 and fifth in the NCAA with her 5.74 digs per set, a mark that set the Iowa State and Big 12 records for digs per set in a season. Nolan finished the season with 614 digs, the third-most in a season in ISU history and the sixth 600-dig season in program history. Nolan recorded at least 10 digs in 27 matches, 20 in 15 matches and 30 in four matches. In Iowa State’s five-set win over Kansas, Nolan broke the Iowa State and tied the Big 12 record with 43 digs in the win over the Jayhawks.
In addition to being an all-conference and All-America recipient, Nolan continued Iowa State’s streak of winning the Big 12 Libero of the Year, with her honor marking the seventh-straight season the Cyclones had the top libero in the Big 12.
Nolan and the rest of the Cyclones will open their 2014 regular season by hosting Dayton as part of the Iowa State Challenge on Friday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
