AMES, Iowa – Iowa State wrestling coach Kevin Jackson announced the addition of two more student-athletes to his 2013 fall recruiting class, in Nathan Boston and Logan Breitenbach.
Boston is slotted as the No. 1 120-pounder and the No. 74 overall recruit in InterMat’s 2014 recruiting rankings. The Versailles, Ky., native has an impressive career prep record of 141-1 to go alongside two state titles and a runner-up finish as a sophomore. Boston took home the 113-pound title at the 2013 FloNationals in the spring and was the runner-up at 106 pounds in 2011. The long and lengthy Boston projects to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Cyclones.
“Nathan is another high caliber athlete that were bringing in for our lightweight classes,” Jackson said. “He’s ranked No. 1 in the country in every poll. His work ethic, championship mentality and confidence to be successful at the college level were what most attracted him to me.”
Breitenbach is ranked No. 11 at 152 pounds by InterMat. The Serverna Park, Md., native is a three-time state tournament placewinner at Archbishop Spalding High School, compiling a 144-24 record in three seasons. Breitenbach took home a state title at 152 pounds as a junior in 2013 after going 50-3.
“Breitenbach is a tough kid,” Jackson said. “He’s got a ton of experience wrestling kids from all across the country. He’s one of the best wrestlers that has come out of Maryland in a while. He had an immediate connection with our coaching staff and athletes when he stepped on campus.”
Like Boston, Breitenbach has also excelled on the national scene outside of high school varsity wrestling. He was a 2012 FILA Cadet All-American, taking fourth-place at 152 pounds. He took third at the 2013 USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle Nationals at 160 pounds. Breitenbach also was the 2012 Greco-Roman Pan American Games champion at 69 KG (152 pounds). He projects to wrestle at 157 or 165 pounds for the Cyclones.
Boston and Breitenbach join a 2013 fall class that already features two of the top wrestlers in the country in No. 37 overall recruit Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer and No. 9 220-pounder Marcus Harrington.
