RHODES, Iowa – The No. 28 Iowa State women’s golf team fired a 306 this afternoon to finish third at the 2013 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at The Harvester Golf Club.

ISU carded a 54-hole tally of 912 en route to its highest placing in a Big 12 Championship in school history. The Cyclones were one shot behind second-round leader Baylor at the beginning of the day, but Oklahoma State made a final-round charge to claim the tournament title. The Cowgirls shot 299 this afternoon for a 905 three-round total, two shots ahead of Baylor.

“I am really proud of our team,” Iowa State head coach Christie Martens said. “We wanted to be in contention on the final day, and we were. I am really proud of how they played. They showed a lot of heart today. The conditions were tough today and they played through it and were in it until the end.”

Cyclone senior Punpaka Phuntumabamrung earned Big 12 All-Tournament honors for the third time in her career, placing second in the medalist race at 221 (77-68-76). Phuntumabamrung’s runner-up performance is the highest finish by a Cyclone in Big 12 Conference Championship history. Phuntumabamrung has placed in the top-10 at the Big 12 Championships in three of her four seasons donning the cardinal and gold.

“Bow (Phuntumabamrung) is such a great pressure player and she showed that today,” Martens said about her star. “She feels comfortable that she can play with anyone in the country, and she is what you need as a senior leader.”

Iowa State true freshman Cajsa Persson fired a 72 this afternoon to help her earn All-Tournament honors by tying for fifth, with a 54-hole score of 226. Persson’s 1-under-par 35 on the back nine featured three birdies.

Prima Thammaraks posted a 77 today to finish 15th at 231..

Baylor’s Lauren Taylor, the 2012 British Amateur champion, was the individual medalist at 213, eight shots ahead of Phuntumabamrung.
