Terry Ayeni tears ACL; two other linemen not yet on campus

DALLAS — Iowa State’s shaky defensive line just got shakier.

Terry Ayeni, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound junior college defensive lineman was supposed to come in this fall and make an impact. On Tuesday morning at the Big 12 media days in Dallas, Paul Rhoads announced that Ayeni will miss the 2014 season due to torn ACL.

“Terry Ayeni will be redshirting in 2014,” Rhoads said. “Terry was on a drill field at New Mexico Military doing extra conditioning work. A hole that had been filled in opened up when he planted on it. His foot sank in the hole and he went to twist and tore his ACL.

Ayeni has already undergone surgery on the injured knee.

“He is doing a fantastic job with his recovery but he will not be available to us," Rhoads said.

Ayeni, a junior, will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2015.

Still missing two JUCO linemen

In addition to the Ayeni news, Rhoads said that two junior college spring signees on the defensive line have yet to make it to campus. Dale Pierson and Trent Taylor are those men.

“It will probably be a post Aug. 4 practice announcement knowing that they are there and have arrived on campus,” Rhoads said. “A process that is hard at this point is having all of the right people on campuses for transcripts and so forth. We are pretty confident in one’s grades that everything is in line. The other is finishing up classes.”
