As much as I like Austin. If Tiller beats him out I would be happy. I think Tiller has a higher upside than Austin. Just my opinion. Austin seems to be more refined at the moment.

Hopefully he will get plenty of PT with those 4 touchdown leads ISU will have in the second half of games this year.

Tiller won't beat out Arnaud, but I think due to his athleticism he'll see the field in other positions. Herman seems like the kind of guy who is creative enough to employ the best athletic talent on the team.

After watching a practice this competition isn't even close. Arnaud is an NFL QB, watch his development going into the first game it will be amazing. He is bigger and stronger and way more accurate. Its isn't even close when it comes to throwing. Austin never has a good spring game, I am not concerned.

Also Keep in mind during the Spring Game Tiller was throwing against 2nd and 3rd team DB's with our first team WR's. And his big run was while he was split out. Arnaud is the man and Tiller will be good when his time comes.

Having said that, this is a great problem to have. We have a very capable QB and for the next 2 years Tiller can provide a scheme here or there.

anyone else notice that most (6 of 10) of those names in the article are on defense?

Another comment that prooves that it's always the backup who is the best player we got. Starting to sound like Iowa!

I seem to remember a lot of people saying this very thing when Meyer was starting...has the well run dry on Arnaud already.

Sometimes the lesser qbs are just better as they know how to make plays.

JT has the potential to make some unusual plays, so he should be given a chance.

The best thing is to let AA run loose and know that we have a capable backup. Last year when Bates quit we took AA and put a muzzle on his running and we were lesser for it as a team. Then when the season was going to pot and the OC was in trouble, he let him run loose again.

You need a good backup in order to let the front runner run free during the game.

This is just the standard Backup QB love that occurs often with programs that are stuggling. A lot of people see that the team has not won a lot under AA so they pin their hopes on the backup being better and want him to play. It happened with Donovan McNabb and his backup Kevin Kolb last year. McNabb was benched when the team was struggling because everyone thought the backup could do better and then was starting again by the end of the year because he is a great NFL qb.
Tiller has shown some great athletic ability and potential to be very good in the future. Athleticism is a great thing to have and looks really impressive, but I don't think it is as important as experience and grasp of the game, which I think AA has and JT doesn't.
AA has shown that he can produce against actual competition and deserves a shot to do so with a better defense and supporting cast. He also has quite a lot of athletic ability himself.

It's funny. After last years spring game when Bates looked good and Arnaud didn't, everyone thought Bates should be handed the job outright. Bates showed that he really was not that good at completing passes when the time came, and AA won the job easily.

If Tiller beats out Austin, I'll be happy as well, but not because it's Tiller. I'll be happy because it means we have the best player at that position on the field. Nothing more. Just so long as everyone here agrees, that if Austing wins the position, we don't hear constant nagging of how Tiller should be starting.

As far as his upside goes? I don't know, honestly, I've never seen him play in a big XII game. I remember a lot of people telling me that Austin Flynn was the real deal also. And not to bash Flynn, I still think he got a bit of a raw deal having to play his freshman year behind that offensive line. My point being though, all the upside in the world from a quarterback isn't going to help what killed us last year, our Defense. If we aren't winning games because we are only scoring 30 - 40 points a game,, not 65 points, I'd rather not hear how Tiller should be starting.

I know there is a lot of debate about weather or not players read these boards. Or how important our chat here really is. Either way, Starting or not, I'd like both QB's, in fact all the players to know they have our full support for sticking it out through the hard times and remaining Cyclones. It takes a lot of character to stick around after what our football program went through the last two years.

This seems to happen every spring game. I remember AA looking better than Meyer. I remember PB looking better than AA. This year Tiller looked better than AA. It comes down to the fact that the back-up is playing against the 2nd and 3rd string defense. AA is the man, but I believe we will see Tiller this year possilby both of them in the game at the same time in some crazy Herman Mensa formation.

Tiller will not beat out Arnaud. Some of you guys on here i think dont realize that Austen put up some good numbers last year for his first year. Passing for 2,800 yards and rushing for 400 yards isnt to bad. His arm is amazing and his accuracy as well. I think some of you guys on here think that it was the qbs or the offense fault for the 2-10 record last year. To me i thought our offense moved the ball pretty darn good last year. But giving up 35, 38, 35, 49, 59, 28, 52, and 38 points just in the big 12 isnt to great. I think we have our qb and tiller will be good when austen is gone but lets be more concererned about the defense first.

I don't care who is starting just so it is the person who gives us the best chance to win. No personal loyalties here, just loyal to ISU.

My Favorite Thing About CycloneFanatic---Every player that puts on the Cardinal and Gold is hyped up beyond belief before they even play one game. Tiller, Lucca, Eikmeier, so on and so forth. Austen Arnaud is the best QB we have had at ISU EVER. Its kind of disturbing that fans don't have alot of faith in the hometown kid that works harder than anybody on the team. (Try learning 3 offenses in 3 years). I think that Tiller will be a stud for us and will get a few snaps this year, but no way does he beat out Arnaud. Don't forget that Tiller put up that yardage in the spring game against the 2nd team defense consisting of walk-ons and redshirted players from a 2-10 team.

:skeptical:

No, that would be Seneca Wallace.

Can't say I disagree with you on the other parts of your post, but seriously, Wallace, hands down, is the best QB to put on an ISU uniform.

However, A.A. has a year or two to stake his claim as the best Cyclone QB ever.
