You people realize that probably 80%+ of windows machines running in enterprise business and university environments are still running xp? That OS is 8 years old. Its replacement, Vista is already 3 years old. In those ensuing 8 years, processing power has really outstripped mainline performance needs. Dual, triple, quad cores, etc. Why do you think netbooks have taken off? The allow a user to do everything most people do with a PC, with a processor that is only as powerful as some processors that are 4+ years old.
I'm just pointing out that PC reliability is a much bigger issue than perhaps it used to be. I'm still chugging away on the same HP desktop I got issued my first day of work 5 years ago, and I work for a Fortune 500 technology company.
