48 beers in 24 hours?

30 beers for a college kid = 20 beers in reality. College kids (not all) are known to fib when commenting on how much they have drank
The century club is actually pretty easy (or it used to be when I was in school. It wouldn't be pretty if I tried to do it now). As long as you've had a couple beers before you start to expand your stomach, you can get through it without too much effort.
Also, it goes without saying that using the lightest beer you can find helps. 100 shots of Newcastle in 100 minutes will knock most people on their ***.

No doubt. A friend and I downed a case playing beach volleyball one insanely hot afternoon and didn't feel it too much.
We used to split our case races into 2 man teams. My partner and I would almost always finish in approximately an hour. My record was 13 beers in under an hour.
The 48/48 is most definitely possible. I don't think I could do it without some maintenance puking and/or passing out. But...I know of a few guys who could do it and probably have multiple times without having the whole goal in mind.
We used to do 60 but it went too quickly, so the standard became 100. Its not really that bad. But 60 seconds starts to seem more like 10 seconds during the last half hour...
That may be the case in general, but the "normal college drunks" I was referring to were me and some buddies...so the 30 beers is legit (case day then 6 +/- beers at a bar in Decorah). I doubt I could even make it to a 12-pack nowadays.

HAHA, the Century Club. I haven't tried that since before Iowa State. A friend and I tried it several times and never made it much past an hour. It was sad how what amounted to only a few beers could mess you up so bad.
In the summer between my high school junior and senior year, I drank about 36 one time in about 16 hours (about noon until 4am ish)...or so the legend goes. Of course, I ended up waking up on the side of a county road in the back seat of my car with the windows open and rain pouring down. I (well, my parents) decided I should probably scale it down a little after that...
I did that just twice, I believe. Two Super Bowls in a row. The first time I did it was my freshman year in the dorms, after already having been drinking all day. I was passed out before the game was over, or shortly afterwards. The next time, I started out with the Century Club after getting off work. I fared much better that time...
I once did 21 during a football game day. Pre-tailgate. Tailgate. Didn't go to the game so kept drinking during. And then the after party. I started with a full case for just me that day and I brought 3 home. Ouch.

Of course, the only people that I was representing, that were also paying my room and board (well, at least in high school), were my parents. Not quite the same situation...
We were ready to throw you your intervention, but one of the guys got alcohol poisoning during the preparation, so it had to be called off...
I always enjoyed how when you started Century Club the next minute couldn't come fast enough, but by the end you're using all 60 seconds to finish your shot...Fun times!!!
The worst is eating Chinese food before you do it. You get so full and feel awful and puke at the end.
