IMO, if true, bad hire by ND. I think they could have gotten Urban had they waited and if not, Stoops still would have signed. Think about what they are trying to do. They are trying to win NCs. Bob Stoops has consistently lost big games. Now, maybe his team wasn' as talented as the team he played but the fact is that he hasn't won a big bowl game recently and he lost to Boise State. I think he will do a better job than Weis, however I don't see him being able to win NCs and likely not big bowl games. I really think he will regret this decision when he finds that he cannot get the defensive talent he needs to beat USC, Michigan, etc in games that mean something. This is just my opinion.

I also think they should wait until after Florida's bowl game. Stoops might be willing to jump ship before his bowl game because they aren't playing for anything. Most of the other rumored coaches have something to play for in their bowls. ND can afford to wait and find out for sure who is really interested after the season.

Unless, of course, if ND has contacted Urban Meyers agent and has flat out been told No, then Stoops might be their fall back.

Does anyone else think that Venables would get a shot at taking over if Stoops is in fact gone?

Whoever it is, he will coincidentally have a strong fettish for kicking the **** out of iowa state

Stoops would be an idiot to take the ND job.

Really? I disagree. He is from Youngstown...Great Lakes area...a hotbed for recruits. He can sell that program. It seems like a perfect fit for a coach that has run into really good success at OU which is now starting to lose its luster, to go back home and make it a lifetime job. This guy can coach, and it is pretty obvious to me watching the ND season this year that if they had a coach that could coach, they would have been a BCS team.

ND needs to fire whoever is on their selection committee for hiring coaches. They haven't had a good coach since Lou Holtz. Now they hire a guy who loses every big game he coaches.

Are you kidding me?!? They call him "Big Game Bob" on ESPN.

You better go back and look at his record a little closer. 115-29 overall, 71-16 in the Big 12. 6 first place finishes (and one tie for first) and 3 second place finishes in conference in 11 years. 7 BCS bowls. One National Championship. 7 top 8 finishes in the polls in 11 years.

I'd take Bob Stoops as coach any day and twice on Sunday.

Oh, and for all of you that think anyone can do what Stoops has done at OU...look at his predecessor John Blake and get back with me.

If Stoops went to Notre Dame the biggest loser would be Ohio State. He would assemble a staff that would absolutely raid Ohio, much like he has done with Texas at Oklahoma.

Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer are the perfect candidates for this job. If Notre Dame is looking to be relevant again...one of these coaches need to be there, IMO. Question is out now...can they get them?

I will not believe this until Bob Stoops' mom is quoted as saying

"If he took a new job that little rascal hasn't told me"

Even if this is true and Stoops is going to ND. He would not sign the paperwork like the story claims. Some coaches wait 6 months to a year while attorneys go over the paper work. So them claiming he already put his name on the paper is rediculous. Not only that it would be a verbal agreement and Stoops would tell the Sooner AD before he would sign paperwork.

There is a preliminary written agreement. You don't hire a coach on a "verbal" agreement that he will sign a contract in 6 months.

stoops has no reason to leave oklahoma, and they will do whatever it takes to keep him there. notre dame needs to hire brian kelly. he can win games with lesser talent, which will help in the short run, and in the long run he will be able to recruit hella good talent. but it's notre dame so they'll probably hire mangino.
