Well, kind of the same story as the last 3 years. The top rated ISU guys do well on the championship side, but the others wash out in the wrestlebacks. This year the washout seemed worse than in the past. Somehow, Jackson has to fix this...

As long as he can recruit well, he will. The evidence (IMO), lies in Long. He started out like crap and he's in the finals.

Couldn't be prouder of Long, Varner, and Z.

Couldn't be more disappointed in Reader.

we need to recruit the state of iowa. Go ahead and compare the rosters between iowa and iowa state... We are incredibly outmatched. And they are young --

More important is we need to do better in regular season and conference tourney so that our wrestlers get the best seeds possible.

The most amazing fact I have seen is that Iowa only has 2 wins where they beat higher seeded opponents, and not a single one by any of their finalists. (Long has two wins over higher seeds himself) Kerr had a victory over #11 Erisman and Keddy, the #9 seed, beat the #8 seed. Other than that, what they have done is win the matches they are supposed to and that is a direct benefit from what they did during the season. If we can have the mentality to take care of business every meet in the season, Nationals becomes easier because the match-ups are better.

Young??? 7 of the 10 are seniors. All but two of the wrestlers that made the quarterfinals were seniors, and 3 of the 5 in the finals are seniors.

What does this mean? Are you referring to ISU and if so who incredibly outmatches us? If you are referring to Iowa they beat us twice but not by much so I would not consider that incredible. Who are you referring to as young, Iowa, ISU or both? Both squads have several seniors and both will be rebuilding. From a performance standpoint at this tournament Iowa is doing a much better job but that is against a field of many teams not just one other.

With that said, does anyone know when the matches start tomorrow?

Honestly guys, isn't this how we saw it going? Who really thought anyone would compete with Iowa? They came in, did what everyone knew they could, and wrecked it. We obviously had some low points that shouldn't have been, but 2nd is still slightly in reach. Dake seems to allow people to keep it close and could lose it; and Lewnes and Borschel could go either way. If we win 3 and they lose both it may work out. It may pain you but you gotta cheer for Montell Marion and Jay Borschel tomorrow night.

I don't think the disappointment that has been expressed necessarily has to do with not beating Iowa, so much as it does with not wrestling well overall, for example, like what happened last night in the consolation round:

149 pounds - No. 9 Kevin LeValley (Bucknell) dec. No. 7 Mitch Mueller (ISU), 7-6 (TB1)
165 pounds - No. 9 Andrew Rendos (Bucknell) dec. No. 4 Jon Reader (ISU), 7-2

Losing to two lower seeded wrestlers from Bucknell...not so good. Also, there seem to have been a number of matches that ISU lost later in the third period. ISU was ranked #2 for most of the year, and it seems that they should have more than 3 AAs. ISU sent 10 wrestlers; three will be going for titles, and none of the other 7 will finish in the top 8.

Ouch - I think that means that we need to win all three championship matches tonight, and Cornell needs to lose both of theirs, in order for us to have a shot at 2nd.

3 individual champs would be a great finish, especially if we can get 2nd. Reader and some of our other guys did dissappoint, and Reader has one more year to prove he's the great wrestler he shows flashes of being.

For those interested in a 2nd place finish you will need to be big Montell Marion fans at 141 and Jay Borschel fans at 174. Both face the Cornell wrestlers that made it to the finals.

I guess I just don't get the animosity some express against Cyler and Cael. I'm not going to fault Cyler for putting family loyalty above school loyalty and following his brother. I still don't think we know the whole story behind Cael's leaving, but that doesn't change the fact that he chose the Cyclones and became the greatest collegiate wrestler of all time in a Cyclone uniform, and the Sanderson's are the greatest Cyclone wrestling family in our great wrestling history. I'll always be rooting for the Sanderson's unless they are competing against the Clones, and I hope Cael starts kicking Iowa's butt in the near future.

It's the fashion that he left. A lot of people feel that he had left for money and/or didn't like facing off with Brands on the big stage it is here, and a lot of wrestling fans aren't really happy about that. And it isn't just ISU wrestling fans that feel that way. A lot of Iowa fans have the same feeling about it.
