When is the last time the big ten won a national title in anything? they make fun of iowa state for not having any conference championships in football but in this past year werent we number like 16 or something of the list of top athletics programs in the country?

I mean our volleyball team was good, womens bball good, wrestling good, our football team won a bowl game, boys and girls golf was good, cross country was good. Our athletics are actually very good but since our football team has never won anything that means our school sucks? lol morons

Um - a couple of months ago Iowa won the wrestling national title.

They live in freaking Michigan and are busting on Ames? C'mon. Who's the red headed step child again?

Actually, I have red hair and have lived with my step-mother since the age of 3. She has always loved me unconditionaly and supported me in everything I do. I couldn't ask for a better step-mom. I'm 36 now and she still doesn't charge me rent, screen my calls, nor does she make me get up early on the weekends.

Bold #1: Iowa won wrestling THIS year (and 2008 and 2009. Then Minnesota won 2007). Penn St. won volleyball 2007 -2009. I don't even want to list Big Ten teams winning bowl games... Minnesota won men's golf in 2002. Wisconsin won men's cross country in 2005. Yeah we were good overall, but don't try ripping on the Big 10 for a lack of championships.

Bold #2: lol wut? Boys golf hasn't been good here in like... ever?

Sorry when i said in anything, i meant to a sport that is broadcasted nationwide. Most people outside of the midwest dont care about wrestling, and most people dont care about girls volleyball unless they have some tie to the university

They ask what ISU has ever won. Other than the 2000 basketball title (and let's not get into that whole situation), what has MSU ever won? If they are talking conference titles in various sports, ISU has won those. If they are talking football only, when was the last time MSU was good in football, or won any sort of football title?

They make fun of Ames, when most of them live in Detroit? Are you kidding me?

They act like ISU's athletic program is so inferior, yet in the Director's Cup standings we are like 22nd, and I'm guessing that's with the smallest budget of any of the teams in the top 50.

They mention we should be happy MU and Neb are leaving the conference so they don't "beat our brains in" each year, yet we beat Nebraska last year (and 3 times this decade), and have beaten MU several times, and they rarely "beat our brains in".

They are just a clueless fan base it seems.

Alright then, so just football and men's basketball. We can work with that.

Football
Big Ten title: 2002, Ohio State University
Iowa State title: Umm... say what?
Big XII title: 2005, Texas

Men's Basketball
Big Ten title: 2000, Michigan State University
Iowa State title: Yeah... still waiting on that one.
Big XII title: 2008, University of Kansas

So, on the whole, Big XII has won more recently than the Big Ten. But you asked about Big Ten vs. Iowa State, in which we lose handily in both cases. Stop justifying a bad argument.

I wish you wouldn't swear. We need to be the "bigger" fanbase here. Class, not crass.

I think the people going doom and gloom about the whole thing are overreacting. I'm confident ISU will end up in a BCS auto qualifying league no matter what happens. That said if Nebraska and Missouri left it would be a bit of a blow due to leaving us fairly geographically isolated from the rest of the Big 12.

I am not sure that thr Big 12 can get rid of ISU since they are a CharterMember of the original Big 8.

So other than football and basketball, being good in other sports doesn't matter? Then why did you use the argument that ISU has a good overall athletic program (using volleyball, golf, x-country, wrestling, etc) as a reason why ISU is a better program than MSU? You can't have it both ways.

AHA! You did it. Although the picture sums up his stance on saying we matter on some stuff, but that stuff doesn't matter.

MSU fans have a major inferiority complex. They have a serious case of "little brother syndrome" and just need someone to rag on. Doesn't matter how many BB titles they get, they will always be in the shadows of the maze and blue.

MSU is a little brother step child to Michigan. Michigan has done nothing in football for a few years. The Big Ten is a "no body BCS conference" trying to up their stakes. Right now they only have two teams that can even contend. If Missouri and Neb. go there, the rest of the Big Ten will be regretting it. In football they will have another occasional contender. Basketball, no change, Academically, a drop with Nebraska.

I hate to break this to everyone, but ISU offers nothing to a major conference. We are not good in any major sports, we do not have a lot of revenue, and have almost nothing to offer for a TV audience. ISU is a mid major school that is in a major conference for now.

The ISU as an independent is cool to consider. Not at all likely, but a really cool idea.
