I don't think the fans had much to get excited about for most of the second half.

The atmosphere for me at JTS is often very quiet and poorly mistimed. I was not impressed by the atmosphere there on Thursday night.

Colorado was good and so was Iowa two years ago. That was the best atmosphere at JTS I have experienced in my time at ISU and I wish we could duplicate that for every home game.

The student section doesn't start to rock until the opponents have come to the line and pretty much right before the center snaps the ball. That is wayyyyy to late. It should be getting loud when the opponents are in the huddle or just coming out so they can't make audibles or try and communicate with each other. That leads to false starts and mistakes in routes that HELP OUR DEFENSE!!! That is why, even after our offense turns the ball over, you NEED TO BE LOUD so we can maybe help the defense get the ball back. Then the place will really erupt when that happens.

And for crying out loud, I hate when we start cheers when our offense is on the field. Brett Meyer complained last year when the band played while the team was in the huddle. Why do think that was? Because he is a whiner and complainer? NO! Because he can't communicate with his teammates then. Same thing happens when you start chanting "Let's Go State" as the offense goes through cadences.

Almost all of that was the cheerleaders' fault. They constantly tried to start cheers on things like 3rd & 6 or right away on first downs. We're lucky the students followed as little we did. I will never understand why we can have such a pleasant, intelligent dance team but cheerleading squads that couldn't outwit a sack of bricks.

That's funny (ironic funny)

I've been to the I-Cubs Saturday and Sunday this weekend. And I noticed just the opposite at the ball park. Easily, EASILY 5:1 hawk to Cyclone apparel. Just made me sick.

On the upside. I think it was the ISU softball team in attendance Sat night. Didn't quite get it from the PA announcer, but I think that was it. Anyway it was ISU something. And there was a chorus of cheers when announced, quickly followed up by and pretty much drowned out by a chorus of boos.

I turned to my wife and simply stated "That's iowa fans for you. They'll boo the ISU women's softball team - at an Iowa Cubs game."

:goofy:

Agreed, I wish we were smart enough to follow them though. I hate to say they should go, but maybe the best solution is to only have them lead cheers during extended breaks?

Maybe next week it can be the groundkeepers fault?

Then the week after the lights could be mis-aligned?

Then we can complain about the atmospheric pressure and the fact that too many geese were migrating south...?

50K were there. 50K were cheering a good portion of the game. 50K were looking for anything to cheer about the rest of the game.

Fact of the matter was the team stunk it up like the Ames treatment facility. Case closed. Fan "support" couldn't have done diddly about it. Fan support might very well have kept it the mere 9 it was, and not 16 or 23 that it could've been.

Also, a little observation of my own. So many of these people who claim to be such great fans - nobody here in particular, but those in my own section aka Superfan and co. - seem to consistently disappear 4-5 before halftime, go out and get well lubed during half time, then show up with 5-7 gone in the 3rd. And then proceed to jump all over everyone else about not being insane 60 staight minutes.

Another observation. These same fans would seem to know absolutely squat about football. I mean, the other night they wanted us to get up and go insane and be loud as hell.

ON 3rd DOWN ON OFFENSE....

I also love it when they want to you get up and go nuts during a timeout.

Just had to roll my eyes in disgust, brother....

I'll make this edit in regards to the apparel. I'm going to presume that the reason there was so much more hawk apparel was that ISU are smart enough to realize what team was playing at that particular venue.

No kidding...for God's sake we're now blaming cheerleaders for stuff. Face the fact, we didn't play as well as we had hoped. Meyers sucked and needs to step up. Time to move on and concentrate on UNI. God forbid that we lose to the Panthers but if so maybe we can blame it on the people in the concession stands.

I had nothing to say about the cheerleaders affecting the football game. I believe that problem rests solely in the hands of the players- they're the ones out there on the field, and they're the ones that need to improve. I was just saying that the cheerleaders were the main reason why cheers were being started at inopportune times. You can blame anything on anyone all night long, but it's the football that sucked, not anything else.

i was unable to attend the game, but from what i heard on the radio, it was a disappointing effort. sure we were down the entire second half. that is when the home team needs the so-called home field advantage. when they were in any third down situation, it didn't seem to get any louder in there. maybe some of these new season ticket holders just aren't quite sure when they are supposed to be making noise. maybe i am wrong and it just didn't transmit to the radio waves very well and it was louder than hell in there, but i have been to too many games in that stadium when our crowd is quiet at all the wrong times and only wants to make noise during the chorus to sweet caroline after the other team punches it in for 6.

Does anyone think that discussing this on CF is like "preaching to the choir". I know I didn't have much of a voice left all day Friday.

Again.. the #'s were GREAT!
I just felt the "action" in the stands was similar to the play on the field... same 'ole same 'ole...

Chizik made a call out for the loudest crowd in the Big 12 - win or lose... for that I give the crowd a C+ on Thursday.

It's a marathon not a sprint like so many compare the new era to, so all I'm saying is I felt the crowd didn't BRING IT . There will beplenty of UNI fans again this year like last year and we need to lay down both on the field AND in the stands... THIS IS OUR HOUSE !
And to the comment Cyclone stadium doesn't get up and crazy just for the heck of it.... WHY NOT ?

WHY NOT IOWA STATE ?
WHY NOT Wow the Big 12 or whoever comes in with a WOW crowd... not just when things are going good.

Again..
# of fans A-
Atmosphere C+ we can do BETTER !

Go CLONES ! :biglaugh::chatterbox:

I agree... I'm sure Chizik was disappointed (especially at halftime when they left to the sound of boos...), no the team hadn't given the crowd a decent reason to cheer but still...

And all I know is, JTS is no Hilton Colosseum (not that Hilton has exactly had a lot of Hilton Magic in the last few years either) - the crowd rarely ever gets into it or gets into it for long

And UNI last year was embaressing - their group of fans were much louder than ours were most of the game. I do NOT want a repeat of that next week :skeptical::no:

Unfortuantly, if our fan base is anything like they were at Kent State or the UNI game last year, it will be the same old same old

Those boo's were for gutless play calling. At least try, it just felt like Dan all over again with sitting on the ball when you have a lead. This is ISU, our leads are never safe.

Right on price !

That is exactly the point I was trying to make when I originally made this post. Am I preaching to the choir ? I am not so sure. Even the posts we have seen to this thread are mixed. Some wanna see more on the field for more support. What I wanted to see was better timing and a more unified effort in our support. 12th man is best suited for the defensive side of the ball. It's whenever the other team's offense is on the field no matter the score or time left in the game we need to BRING IT. Players can't leave early, players can't take plays off on defense or you get BEAT. Ala L-T - Lawrence Taylor Let's show up to the game like a bunch of CRAZED DOGS and give the other team H*LL. :biglaugh::chatterbox:

Let's give coach Chizik a better effort and argue about his effort 3 years later. It's a fact the crowd CAN effect the game... especially on the defensive side of the ball. Why wait till our record is the likes of V-Tech, Wisconsin, Auburn as one post claimed. Lots of fans stepped up and bought season tickets BEFORE winning records this year. WHAT IF we were the loudest crowd THIS YEAR and although the talent still needs to be improved WHAT IF the crowd was a legitimate 12th man. What would that atmosphere do for recruiting ? WOW ! Hilton magic impressed visiting recruits even in off years. My whole point being forget the team record, the score this year and give the team something different just as we clamour for something different and then see what happens.

We need to hit that line and hit hard from the beginning to the end. Heck... when you see people leaving early give em something...give 'em heck, disappointment.

Maybe people couldn't clap enough because they had an ace of spades in their hand, thus negating the ability to clap effectively. Maybe you should switch your strategy from the ace of spades cards to an ace of spades hat or shirt. That way, we could still clap on defense.:biglaugh:
