I think I'm going to go to the U dub vs Nebbie game. Being knew to the region, what better chance to see a new stadium than to watch the traitors fall? Haven't decided what section to sit in though. Going to go with the ISU gear for sure though.

(on that note, if anyone's ever been to UW, got any tailgating advice? or other pregame festivities? From what I'm hearing at work, there's not going to be much, unless I have a boat.)

Nebraska's plan has not included a lot of non-conference powers in any one year, as they need to cash in on their sellout streak at home. Those cupcakes are as much about money as about W's. The Husker coach that gets beat by one of those teams at home had better know where his suitcases are, that's for sure. Not stupid to make a lot of money on hosting a full stadium on a team you're almost 100% sure to beat. I'd rather watch anything else than mismatches like those...which is why they're on PPV not cable tv.

Yep, it's (almost) all about $$$. Can't really blame them, but I do look forward to the day one of them finally picks them off. Ball State almost did it a couple years ago (Callahan's last year, I believe). Final score was 41-40, and I seem to remember Ball State missing an extra point somewhere along the line. Would have made his last year even more enjoyable had they won it.

I'm also on the Washington bandwagon. They've got things going in the right direction really quickly, so the UW-NU game should be a great one. I'll take the Huskies because it's in Seattle.

Agreed. Can't shock the world if we hide from it.

Shocking the world is how you build a football program?

Show me a team that won a couple big games, but failed to go to a bowl game that really sprung to be a power because of it.

ISU should be playing a schedule like that but easier.

Yeah, Callahan's a bad word around Nebraska. K-State crushed them at home and that prompted Solich's firing. Okie State kicks them, and they fire the AD, bring in Dr. Tom, who fires Callahan. Not even an easy non-conference schedule could save them with that D'fense. I'll take Nebraska in that UW game, only because I want them to come in over confident to Ames where we can pull another big win against them to close out the series for a while.

Osborn and Snyder were the reason that the TV deal was written the way it is. If schools wanted a good payout they need to schedule teams that are going to get them on TV, not the weak sisters. Teams like Texas will be on every week no matter who they schedule because they have a big following across the country, which believe it or not Nebraska no longer has.

to the OP, you do realize that schedules are made years in advance right??? most teams schedule 1 marquee team each season. look at texas schedule.

to everyone else, wanna make a friendly wager?? i will gladly take your money if ya wanna hand it over like that!!!

Are you crazy.
That works for Washington, but how do you explain SDSU, Idaho, and W. Kentucky.

What really peeves me off is when people (here in Lincoln) make fun of K-States schedule.

I always laugh when people cry about other team's schedules. You are correct. Most teams schedule one other BCS team and then three patsies.

Let's not get too carried away. It's not as if we scheduled Florida and Alabama.
This year we have Utah and Iowa. The year after that we have UConn, Iowa, and Utah. Nobody schedules three games like that for their non conference.

BTW- We aren't claiming to be National Champion contenders either.

Yea but its not like we schedule like this intentionally or consistently. Schedules are made years in advance, when these games were scheduled UCONN was an upstart independant and Utah was just another team from the MWC. Neither of those games was scheduled with the thinking that we're going to really beef up the competition in 2010/2011, it just happen to work out that both of those programs have made really big strides. On the other hand, when Nebraska scheduled Washington they were a top 10 program. Which basically means Nebby signed up knowing they'd get a shot at a big program, our schedule just fell together that way. I really hate defending Nebraska here but they also just played USC and Va Tech, and they play Tennessee after their home and home with UW, they have shown they'll answer the call when the big boys are looking for a game. There are plenty of big time programs that play a much softer schedule. Okay now I have to go puke for sticking up for the big red.

i see washington being better. but a pac 10 championship will be amazing. they were 0-12 two years ago. New coaching staff can really only overcome so much imo.

Well, with USC in trouble this season, a unproven coach, losing scholarship players....I see a new winner in the Pac 10 this season. U-Dub could be the big time surprise in 2010.

Idaho-picked last in the Big Sky conference
SDSU-what can I say, they are moving up, but no match
Washington-5-7 last year, 0-12 the previous season

I thought Idaho was part of the WAC.

Is that San Diego State or South Dakota State?

Both good calls, RING4CY. It IS South Dakota State, not San Diego State. And Idaho IS part of the WAC, Idaho St is in the Big Sky (an FCS/D-1AA conference). Which means clonedude's comparisons have to be reworked, as he based them on faulty assumptions.

UNI>>Western Kentucky
Northern Illinois>>>Idaho
Utah>>>SDSU
Iowa>Washington

It should be:

UNI>SDSU (both FCS teams)
Northern Illinois>>>>>Western Kentucky (Western KY is a FBS team in the Sun Belt conference, and I believe they were the 120th rated team at the end of last year)
Utah>>>Idaho (Utah speaks for itself, Idaho is a WAC team that made its first bowl game last year in who knows how long. It would be a big fall from grace if they weren't at least somewhat good this coming year)
Iowa>Washington
