Wouldnt it be a college BB players dream to just go out and play and not have to worry about if you are standing in the right spot fot a given play. He has plays they just didnt feel the need to use them. He has plays made up just for White if the NCAA clears him.

I believe that in his press conference, he stated that he told the guys he didn't want to call any plays "tonight."

That doesn't mean he didn't or wasn't going to, but he wanted them to play loose instead of worrying about where to be.

I am sure he will have plenty of plays. But.....I think maybe with a team that is as limited as this team, it probably benefits them to try and get points anyway they can.

Scotty C said in the post game that it is easier to hit shots when your coach WANTS you to take any shot.

But that style of play will mean we will get blown out more often than we want this year. So if we lose some games by 20 or 30 once we start playing the better teams on our schedule (or even the worse teams) you all better keep it together.

Hoiberg is just buying the team some time to keep getting experience/becoming a team by not giving away anything on tape for others.

I don't think the OP understands how easy it is to manipulate another team if you know how they run half court sets, inbound plays, presses, traps, zones, ect.

You really don't need plays. You need spacing and movement. If you have those two things, you will be just fine.

Was anyone conern that Hoiberg told his players the other night---no plays just run and gun. i could coach that way too.

We ran dribble drive motion all night when we didn't get a shot on the break. He just meant they weren't going to run sets...but I'm sure you knew the difference

I am starting to think that our fanbase leads the nation in 'smartassness'.

Too many threads(not this one per say) ruined by whomever can come up with the most smartass answer.

SAD.

My point stands...thanks for helping proove it.

Your point is pretty solid, but I think this thread kind of screamed for it with the poor listening of the OP to Fred's press conference.

Now, discussing the various pros/cons to running a set-play offense as opposed to less plays, that could be an interesting thread.

Until we derail it, which we inevitably will.

IMO the original post dripped of smartassness with the last part of it claiming he can coach as well as our head MBB coach if that's all there is to it. The rest has just been gravy...
