It has just been reported that Gene Chizik also paid recruits while coaching the Cyclones, but no sanctions will be placed on Iowa State by the NCAA.

Apparently, he was paying recruits with Community State Bank Gene Chizik commemorative coins which currently have no monetary value.

Does anyone else see this as possibly bad news for ISU? If Auburn did arrange payment, Chiz is gunna be gone. One would think Rhoads would be on Auburn's short list to replace him.

Why would Rhoads want to go to a school that would most likely be under sanctions?

Doubt it. Wasn't he only there for a year before getting kicked to the curb? Can't imagine that his loyalties are that much tied there, at least not more than with ISU. On top of that, why leave a school that you're making waves with to go coach somewhere that could possibly have major penalties imposed on it? Money isn't always the end all with coaches.

I think you worry far too much. If this actually did go down, Auburn is going to be smacked with A LOT of probation. Auburn ain't USC, and CPR ain't Lane Kiffin - Auburn is going to be nuclear and it won't be that "right" scenario that pulls CPR away from ISU.

Speaking of CPR not being Lane Kiffin - thank goodness - I was wondering: isn't ISU CPR's choice school. He is from Ankeny, his family is here, etc. I know we can't offer the same money/prestige as some of these other places. But Tennessee can offer roughly the same $/prestige as USC and Lane went to where he grew up.

That's actually not my point.

My point is if he kept up with his studies at Florida, he wouldn't have been tossed from Florida in the first place, and we wouldn't have had this "This really great JUCO QB will play at your school - asking price $200K".

Don't think he was kicked out of Florida. He left in the fall semester before having to face the academic advisory committee in the spring.

Possibly, but I have a hard time believing Rhoads would leave ISU, even for more money. The guy was born in Nevada, Iowa and raised in Ankeny, Iowa. He finally lives close to his parents, and his mom is ill.

If and only if Auburn facilitated the money transferring hands. Otherwise Newton will pay and Auburn gets off. USC was punished because they failed to over see and had many issues with donors/alumni/players.
The NCAA will have to prove an organizational failure before this affects Auburn of chiz****

One thing a lot of people don't pay attention to is this little fact. It has a huge impact on why he is here

True. However, as head coach Chizik has to accept responsibility for the actions of his players. Even if all this happened without Chizik's knowledge, it still happened on his team under his tenure. There may not be official sanctions without proof of systemic failure, but his credibility and image won't be helped any by this.

Anyone check the Auburn websites to see if they know they have been Chizzed.

Unless your coach is Joe Paterno, it's useless to speculate on whether or not a coach will stay. We are not Rhoads' alma mater, but he is from the area.

No one knows.

in JUCO football, teams that vacate wins get to be counted as wins for the schools they beat.

As for Chizz getting fired: what would that solve? I think a fine and a slap on the wrist is all Auburn needs to do. The NCAA will come down on them hard enough.

um...LSU beat Alabama. I'm pretty sure an 11-1 LSU will take the West if Auburn is disqualified.

you're right about LSU-ALA but
if LSU loses to Ark
and Ark and Ala win out
It would be a 3way tie with each splitting Hd2Hd
with Ark and LSUs other loss being to Auburn w/Cam
just saying it could really mess with who wins the west
who will be favored to win the SEC.

Re: Cam Newton to be suspended by NCAA

Who should the NCAA be punishing, the people spending the money on recruits or the recruits who receive the money? It is certainly unethical for the recruits to accept any money, but it is purely reactive to suspend the player, as opposed to being proactive about curbing such transactions from taking place at all.

It is unfortunate for Cam Newton that the best way to punish Auburn is to deny him eligibility to play. However, the kid will still get a job in the pros. Look at Michael Vick; if a guy who engaged in those sorts of activities can find a job in the NFL, I have to think Newton's less morally questionable activities won't be punished by a destroyed future.

Exactly why I love college FB and despise pro FB.
