Early look at how we match up with Iowa

It seem like bonus points are inevitable at 125, 133, and 184. What was the plan at ISU for the 133 pounds weight class? Was it for Hunter to move up to it and wrestle Long at 125, or the other way around?

As for 184, my thoughts were that they wanted one of Jerome Ward or Phillip Hawes at that weight. But both are at 197 now, and Gadsen is a year away so we are tossing Riley into the fire.

The match I hope to see an upset in is 157. Go Weatherman. He has really picked it up the past few duals. Also, I hope Gibson pins Rasing. A lot of Hawk fans think Rasing will walk over Gibson. They also think Ward will lose, which I don't see happening.
The meet will be close, i think 60/40 for Iowa, but only because of the bonus points at 125 and 133. Remember, these Iowa wrestlers are very young, you never know if they'll handle the pressure either. Also, I haven't seen one Iowa fan say Rasing will walk over Gibson. The only weights I even feel comfortable are 125 and 133. This is where we are going to see guys from both teams make a name for themselves, and it should be a lot of fun to watch.

Well initially the thought was that Valles was going to be back to wrestle 133 and Long at 125....Hunter was an after thought after Long was suspended and Hunter didn't get admitted to Wisconsin.... Now if Long does make it back he may wrestle 133 which would make sense because 133 is definately our weakest weight w/ 184 close behind....next year should get better having Ryak @ 125, probably Long/Hunter/Jones @ 133, Goettl at 141, Cozart @ 149, Weatherman @ 157, Moreno @ 165, Spangler @ 174, Gadsen @ 184, Ward @ 197 and Gibson @ HWT.....

Next years lineup looks good especially if Long comes back....

Really, let me guess it is what you have heard and don't have a link to prove this?

Everywhere I have read and people I have talked to don't seem to think this, sure they think Rasing will win but by a dec, which is hardly walking all over him. Here is how I see it:

125: TF with back points for Iowa, 5-0 Iowa
133: Major for Iowa, 9-0 Iowa
141: Dec for ISU, 9-3 Iowa
149: Dec for ISU, 9-6 Iowa, could be a maj dec for ISU
157: Major for Iowa, 13-6 Iowa, yes I think St. John will major Weatherman.
165: Dec for Iowa, 16-6 Iowa
174: Dec for ISU, 16-9 Iowa
184: Major for Iowa 20-9 Iowa
197: Dec for Iowa, 23-9 Iowa
HWT: Dec for ISU, 23-12 Iowa wins best case scenario IMO for Iowa, or I could also see this happening:

125: Major for Iowa, 4-0 Iowa
133: Major for Iowa, 8-0 Iowa
141: Dec for ISU, 8-3 Iowa
149: Major for ISU, 8-7 Iowa
157: Dec for Iowa, 11-7 Iowa
165: Dec for ISU, 11-10 Iowa
174: Dec for ISU, 13-11 ISU
184: Major for Iowa, 15-13 Iowa
197: Dec for ISU, 16-15 ISU
Hwt: Dec for ISU, 19-15 ISU wins,

Yeah, either of those outcomes are totally possible. 197 is likely to be a huge match (as long as there aren't a bunch of pins in the first 6 matches)

174Jon Reader (3/7) vs. Ethan Lofthouse (19/16)

This is the match I am most excited for. Reader is an beast for you guys but Lofthouse has the ability to stay with him if he wrestles well.

Here's to a good meet!

I don't think there will be a lot of falls, usually aren't in college meets, but a lot also depends on what weight the meet starts at and if ISU can get some momentum and take the crowd out of it, get on a roll and feed off of that. If it starts at 197 and ISU does jump out to a 6-0 lead a lot of stuff can change. It sounds like there is going to be over 10,000 people there.

The Iowa-ISU meet almost always starts at 125 (the coaches can agree on any weight), so I expect them to do that this year.

The press release that ISU released earlier today said there are over 9,000 tickets sold as of yesterday, so I'm expecting a really full house.

Acutally the only weight the coaches can agree on starting the meet at is 125, if they don't agree on starting it at 125 then the starting weight is a blind draw. And if I'm KJ, I want that draw and don't want this thing starting at 125 even though it could through a blind draw but I would take that chance.

I hadn't realized that it was 125 or nothing, I thought it was just that the coaches had to agree.

While I get your point about not wanting to start out in a hole, KJ might also trust his big guys more with the meet on the line. Other than 184 we're either favored or in an even match at the top four weights.

Just once I'd love to see us match Iowa's aggressiveness...or even try too. Too many times in these duals, it's the Iowa guy on the attack and the ISU guy just reacting to what the Iowa guy throws at him.

I know we have holes in our lineup but with all of what Iowa's lost, if we go into Carver and get hammered, that says a lot about the state of ISU wrestling

Not really. It may show that Iowa has a bit more experienced depth, but really it doesn't say much at all. Our team is VERY young and inexperienced. You should be paying attention to the fight our guys show in bouts where they aren't favored. Also, our guys that are favored should show early in their matches who the aggressor is. Iowa lost a lot, but so did we. They are about a year ahead of us as far as building depth.

I agree that we are rebuilding. Hammering the wrestlers that are new to varsity is not the way to do it! They need a chance to get used to the pressure and stress of performing in front of the masses. You people are ready to throw 3 great wrestlers to the curb without giving them a chance. Sometimes I wonder if some of you are really fair weather fans only.
I have watched the guys in practice and they are all putting everything they have into getting better.
Way to keep it positive JAHFG!!!!!
GO STATE!!!! Good Luck to all of the Wrestlers that are on our team!!!!!
