Not all liberals feel this way. I am one, and I never had a problem with the tractors and what-not (also a city kid) during VEISHA. Furthermore, isn't it supposed to be showcasing the newest and best technology in the field? Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those technologies (or their precursors) were developed at ISU. Right?

You also spelled it wrong...

What are these "tractor" things that you speak of? I didn't know we needed or used these things here, let alone at a nationally recognized Ag school :jimlad:...However I must say I am surprised to see a Design student or whatever he/she is know what a tractor was when they saw one...

I'm a liberal who grew up on a farm as the son of a liberal farmer, who was the son of a liberal farmer, and this guy is an idiot.

Saying all liberals are like this ****** bag is like saying all conservatives are like Bob Vander Plaats.

I just read about this a minute ago:
... he shows deep admiration for the Irish statesman Henry Grattan (1746-1820), whose studied repetition of a word ("No lawyer can say so; because no lawyer could say so without forfeiting his character as a lawyer") is an instance, we are told, of conduplicatio.

Nicely done.

1.) Would it be some stretch of the imagination that during Iowa States illustrious history that the school developed some piece of equipment or agricultural process that necessitated or brought for the creation of these tractors? And if this is a celebration of the university's history and origins, would the above not justify this exhibition?

2.) Correct me if I am wrong, but don't even local farmers use some sort of large scale machinery of some sort? I doubt many are using horse and plows anymore. Therefore, I don't see how displaying the products of a company aiding the workers of the states leading industry somehow results in Iowa State forgetting its foundations.

Also, I think its great that during VEISHEA we can see these technological wonders as well as great pieces of art. We are home to first class Design and Agricultural (among all of the other great colleges) This is one of the things that makes Iowa State great, its diversity. And to celebrate VEISHEA is not only to celebrate the history of Iowa State, but its diversity, its contributions to society and the people who have made it great. I think that this display contributes to all of these.

This guy is clearly just whining, and I know you're just joking....

but leave it to the hicks of ISU to suggest removing art from campus. Sweet ****-kickers.

Wow, can't take context into account in which the statement was made, can you?

When I started reading the line about how ISU was whoring itself out for a week....blah, blah, blah, I kind of assumed it was leading into all the partying. Kids go to Ames from all over just for VEISHEA. Hell, I didn't even know it was about ag until I opened this thread. The first time I'd ever heard of it was when it got out of hand a few years ago.

I'd say THAT would be the appropriate thing to write about with a title like "What has happened to VEISHEA?"

Also, I'm a "city kid" (by that I mean "towner" by southern Iowa standards. I'm a hick anywhere else, but I've only helped throw bales a couple times, and that's the extent of my farming experience), but I can't believe that this kid can't see the difference between corporate farming and local agriculture. Christ man, you don't think that LOCAL FARMERS use that equipment? F*cking idiot.

Apparently somewhere along the line, while students were planning this student run festival to celebrate the colleges of ISU, a student decided a good visual aid and attention getter for the college of Ag would be to have some implements on campus.

Man, that ISU student body is one sneaky "multinational corporation"... whores

I like how the guys whole argument is based on ISU history and saying that agriculture wasn't the original intent when the original name of the school was "Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm"

Absolutely. "Let 'em have it. It's a stupid name". They don't ******* get it.

Its alright. Guys like the that will probably move back to Chicago once they're done with school and never look back. He's probably also a Yankees and Cowboys fan (not that there is anything wrong with that) or is a hipster.
