On the road...
Nice idea, but I really don't think it will ever happen. It sounds bad but we depend on selling the cheap hillside tickets.

Why couldn't they just let the hillside buyers sit there? Up the price a little and allow those people to sit in real seats. If it is general admission (outside of the band area), that would actually drive up the demand for the hillside price point. If they invested ~$20M on restrooms and concessions, they can invest $10M on something like this.

I suppose that mock up would put the total physcial seat capacity to about 54-55K.
Then you would add on the 2nd south deck for another 5-6K to finalize the stadium physical seating to 60K.

There is nothing wrong with setting that as a goal. For right now...the lower south endzone is a must. Then we need to start winning some games.

Not even close. We have 42,500 real seats right now and each hillside is counted at 2,500 (52,500 total capacity after renovations). We'd MAYBE get to 45,000 real seats.

I would vote for enclosing the north endzone as the next major project. With the addition of the new scoreboard all eyes and TV cameras will be in the north endzone all the time. It would cost a fraction of what the south endzone would cost and the south endzone is already nice. The skid steer loader is already digging the dirt, somebody write a big check and lets just finish the job while were at it!

The only time we fill up the hillside (and the real seats) are for big games like Iowa and Nebraska and UNI. We don't even fill up for Oklahoma or Texas.

I've been telling my buddies for a while I'd like to bowl in the North endzone instead, especially after seeing how gd high our scoreboard was going to be.

I think this is a great idea. We're not adding anymore seats that we can't (realistically) fill and it still improves the visual appearance of our stadium at a fraction of the cost.

hmmmm..
Current Physical Seats
42 Grandstands
3.5 South Bleachers
45.5 Total Plus Hills

Physical Seats with New South Lower and North mockup.
42 Grandstands
8 (ish) New south Lower Endzone
4 Cool North Endzone Mockup
54K Total
If add a 2nd deck to south -- 6K ?
60K Total

Unless I am missing something....

Not saying do it now...But I wouldn't discount the idea due to attendance. Iowa couldn't fill up a 50K stadium the end of the 90s or when they are 5-5 etc..
K-State 30 years ago probably could have played at Valley Stadium.
Is the North Endzone needed? Probably not. But would be something cool 20 years from now.

When the hell did this happen? Last time I checked it was crappy metal bleachers with an awful video/sound board behind it.

Last time I looked the discounted priced south endzone seats were the ones we can rely on always being full and yes I think that looks really nice! As far as what you call the crappy bleachers, I would gladly have that look if it enclosed the north endzone.

We lost seats renovating the west side. Actual seats is about 42,500 as opposed to the 45,000 pre-renovation. Second, there's no way it'd be 8,000 seats in the south endzone lower level. The sections are the end would be replaced to "wrap" the south endzone close to the field so those seats are more spread out, and you'd maybe realistically be looking at 5,500. A second deck you might be able to pull off 6-8,000. I'm also guessing your north endzone mockup would also be a bit high. Can't put them behind the sight line of the side of the Jacobson Building and you have to cut seats out on the end section to wrap it around the field.

Regardless, I thought your

was saying it'd miraculously jump from the 42,500 seats right up to 54-55,000 without taking the south endzone into account.

Last year's Missouri game wants to speak with you.

And if you think that look is really nice, you really need to visit more CFB stadiums. I'm trying to think of one with just metal bleachers hanging out in an endzone and can't.

I think that right now, we have TWO endzones that are pretty sparse and embarassing. That new giant scoreboard isn't exactly going to make things look better in the north endzone. It kind of underscores the openness and the small size of the Jake. To me, I think that the north actually looks worse than the south and still will this fall. Putting real stands on the north side is cheaper and IMO just as effective. I don't think that metal stands look nice, but I do think that they look nicer than a tiny Jake with a giant video board above it.

Without leaving the Big XII: KSU, A&M, and even Texas all have end zone bleachers.

I would rather do this than the south endzone. It'd be cheaper, I would imagine, and it would do the same thing as bowling the south (give the stadium a more enclosed feel). I'm not a big fan of needing 4 hillsides.
Another thing I have thought of is why not build seats that extend from the upper half of the lower level. This would allow seating towards the top of the hillsides, and leaving the lower areas as grass. The parents could sit in the stands and still be able to see their kids who could stand on the grass in front of them.

Added a new one. Half as tall corners with the walkway going all around. Also extended the band bleachers closer to the field for more of the "noise" factor. (I do like how Kinnick brings its fans close to the field). I'm going to go shower now after saying that...
