The defense was sort of poor on that. I'm thinking RW won't find it quite that easy in the B12. Nevertheless...impressive ball skills for sure.

Yeah it wasn't the best defense but it is not like the CCL. This is real practice where the players aren't going to be dogging it because the coaches are watching. It mostly a freshman mistake by it looked like Gibson in trying to go for the steal.

You're right, it won't be that easy in the Big XII. The key is if he can get past his defender. If so, someone will come over to help on him, which is what I am excited about. Based on, admittedly, limited viewing from clips of the CCL, he has shown a knack of passing the ball to an open player at just the right time.

It's going to be a fun, fun, fun season.

First, I don't see a lot of teams playing zone against us. I think they will take their chances guarding Royce rather than letting Scotty, Allen, McGee and Babb light their *ss up from 3.

Secondly, he definitely can move for his size, but that same move will get defended much tougher in the B12.

I think he will provide some good versatility for us, but it's not like that is unstoppable. Teams will just have to put an athletic 3 on him.

An important component for this team's success will be how they learn and understand to exploit the other team according to what they are trying to do defensively to us. Other teams are going to try things defensively to stop us. Our ability to adjust to this and execute will be key. If they try to take away Royce, how we execute to get other open looks will be key. If they try to zone us, how we adjust to exploit their zone will be key. Etc, etc, etc.

We have all the tools, but how we put them to good use will somewhat determine how far we go. Especially against the good teams like Kansas, Texas, etc.

Let's all just keep bagging on Railey. It really will help his confidence.

pick your poison with this team.. Zone against us and we have shooters all over the court to pick it apart, Man up and we have RW who wont be able to be guarded on the perimeter by other bigs and guys like Allen, McGee, Sledge, Ejim that can get to the rim and collapse defenses to leave SC, Babb, etc open from deep

Drake should be a nice early example of our team's zone-killing ability, since Phelps stubbornly tends to stay in that zone no matter what the evidence in from of him demands.

Honestly, with the ridiculous amount of shooters on this team, I don't think zone killing is even a question this year. It would be extremely difficult to contain us with a zone.

I would give railey props during this play. Stepped up, was ready to take the charge. Not too many athletes are gonna rise up and block it

So why wouldn't you just sag off RW? I'm not sure his outside shot is that good TBH. I'm not convinced YET this is that huge of an advantage for us. I think I'd rather have him on the block.

You did watch the video correct? Railey didn't put to much effort into it, and the fact he jumped means he wasnt ready to take a charge, plus there wasnt as much contact as you are trying to make it sound like. It's Railey for god's sake.

That's exactly what teams will do, and I don't think we have enough quality to big guys to really put a lineup on the floor where playing White at point would produce a lot of match up problems. There's a lot of athletic, tall forwards in the B12 who will be able to check White on the perimeter, but might not be physical enough to hang with him down low.

I can see him pushing the ball up court after a rebound for a quick transition bucket, but I don't think he'll see much time at the point at all. I do find it interesting how much Hoiberg seems to be trying to get the idea of White at the point out to the public though.

Agreed. This will be a nice little change of pace type of thing to cause teams to practice defending, but 90% of the time, RW won't be our PG, IMO.

I can tell you which poison most teams will pick...... If I'm an opposing coach, I would take my chances trying to defend RW, rather than our full stable of shooters. Between SC, Babb, Allen and McGee, two of those guys will be "On" any given night. Very few teams will be willing to give us the 3.
