Another thing I don't believe will happen even if there is super conferences is a playoff. Because at most they would probably do a 16 team playoff and that would leave a lot of schools out of the postseason. The other schools won't agree to such a format. Schools are continually pushing for expanded post season that is why bowls are continually being added and the NCAA bball tournament keeps looking to expand.

One of the more ridiculous thing Matt says is that Texas and ND will join a conference together. If ND wanted to joing a football conference they would have already in either the big east or big ten.

The independent Texas talk is just complete idiot talk. It doesn't make any sense for them to not be in a conference because they need a place for all their other sports besides football and I doubt a conference would let them do that without taking football. Plus with a conference they have scheduling worked out. Who are they going to get to play them if they go independent? Especially with teams moving to 9 game conference schedules they won't get the quality of opponents they want. Notre Dame has an established list of teams they have been playing for years and that is why it works out. If ND was in conference all along and tried to go independent they wouldn't be able to schedule Michigan, Michigan St. USC, Purdue, etc. every year.

Actually, they could do it. BYU laid out the plan, although on a smaller scale. They found a home for other sports plus signed contract with espn for football. Their AD just did an interview where he said the bulk of their scheduling was done by ESPN for them. ESPN called teams to see if they would play BYU and get it on tv for some $$$. Look at BYU's schedule this year. It ain't terrible.

the Big 12 needs to add TCU (get them out of the Big East), UTEP, Wyoming, and Boise State.

That's how i realigned the Big 12 in NCAA 12

The BCS will prevent a playoff from happening. There are too many bowl sponsors and organizers lining their pockets off the current system and they don't want the sanctity of their games be relegated to a playoff game for an eventual championship game that is controlled by only a few lucky sponsors/organizers. A playoff would name an eventual national champion, but it kills the pay days of those other bowl qualifiers.

He's just repeating what Boss DeLoss said.

However, much to Perrault's chagrin, ISU would be part of that conference most likely.

So you're suggesting that Texas plays basketball in the WAC? No big boy conference would sign that deal and no small conference would be interested in having such a discrepancy in budgets.

Iowa state in a 9 team big 12=

The current remaining members of the big 12 are playing some really food football right now. Everyone but Kansas. Hopefully that will play a part in keeping things together..

I feel that the fear mongers have been subdued and this thread is starting to have more of a positive spin.

I might actually be able to get some work done today.

Does anyone know if Texas A&M leaving would impact the TV contracts?

If not, I think we have a good chance of keeping the 9 remaining teams. None of them should be surprised about A&M leaving now as they were tough to keep on board last year.

The difference this year is the TV contract that was recently signed with Fox. I just hope it is still valid through 2024. I have some concerns as this article says that Fox will be carrying 40 regular season Big 12 games. Would that still be possible with only 9 teams?

I'm not suggesting it. I don't think Texas goes independent, otherwise they would have done it already. But to completely dismiss it as impossible (which is what he did) is naive. If you don't think there is a conference that would take UT athletics, you are crazy. BYU had options. ND has a home. And UT has a better athletic program than either of them.

BYU went to the west coast conference to play st. Mary's and Gonzaga. If you don't think there is a discrepancy in those budgets, you are wrong. And yet the conference wanted BYU. They added exposure.

I highly doubt it. The Big 12 would still have the Texas markets saturated.

If true, good riddance. Hope you like getting your *** kicked on a regular basis in the SEC.

This. The lunatic Aggie fans are tired of living in the shadow of big brother Texas. Everyone knows that to be true. So their solution is to divorce their family to get away from their big brother and move in with a new family that has 4 older, meat head, brothers (Florida, Auburn, Alabama, LSU) that will love nothing more then beating the **** out of their new little brother every chance they get. Great move Aggies... it makes perfect sense. :biglaugh::err::biglaugh:

9 teams = 8 conference games per team. 9 x 8 = 72/2 = 36 total games in conference...but first tier takes what, 12ish? So they'd have to come up with 16 non-conference.

I'd trade a&m for BYU, Air Force, & Louisville to bring the conference back to 12. Get on the phone, Beebe. Add the Salt Lake City & Kentucky viewing regions plus military alumni. Would that be bad?

I'm all about adding teams that bring in worthwhile markets. Memphis is another team that would make a lot of sense.
