From the DM Register:

When the Des Moines Register requested documents from Iowa State about conversations related to the possible departure of Texas A&M from the Big 12 Conference, one smile-inducing nugget was hiding inside.

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard sent an email directed toward “all staff” that outlined A&M’s flirtations with the Southeastern Conference on Aug. 14.

Pollard wrote, “I encourage you to continue to move forward and not let this be a distraction to your respective programs and jobs. I am confident the remaining nine members will remain very united in our pursuit of Texas A&M’s replacement, should they decided to leave.”

One short-hand response, directly to Pollard, came from women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly about the NCAA champion Aggies: “Good riddens!!!!! (sic)”

Almost 4,300 posts in this thread and this one by CtownCyclone stands out to me as the best. You should get some kind of award (Best Post in the Soon to be Longest Thread in Cyclonefanatic History - BPSLTCH) and maybe even a cookie! hahah

WHY DIDN'T I HEAR ABOUT THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

My inside source says that the schools met and stripped ISU of our accreditation. And the scoreboard.

They may take our acrreditation, but they will never take our scoreboard!!!!

notre dame not coming to the Big 12? your kidding, i cant believe people thought that it was possible

I found the Notre Dame AD's comments quite interesting actually. What is he really supposed to say at this point in time? Right now everything is pure speculation as A&M hasn't even officially left the Big XII yet. So he did exactly what he should do at this point and he didn't say much of anything "We like our independence, we like our NBC tv deal, we want to work with the Big East, etc..."

Ha, that's great. Fennelly LOVES the Clones; just wish he loved spell check half as much.

Yeah it was pretty vague in the comments. While I dont think they will join us, he didnt exactly cement the NO. Wants to be with Texas but wants to be with the Big East too. Notre Dame doesnt know what it wants it seems.

Insiders believe the committee will recommend the Big 12 stays with the 10-team format it adopted when Nebraska and Colorado left the conference after last season.

SMU is one school that is wasting its time campaigning for Big 12 membership. Several league sources confirmed that no Conference USA team is in the mix at this point, which would also eliminate wide speculation that Houston is a strong candidate to fill A&M’s spot.

Don't do this to yourself.

I don't see ND joining a Conference anytime soon. If they need to having a new conference that was a Hybrid Big East/Big 12 would be a very good option for them.

Would be a fun Championship game that is for sure, and the conference would have 2 auto qualifiers for the BCS.

Also, the sky is blue. They were just a message board pipe dream. If BYU releases a similar statement then I might start worrying.

HA! What is the ND supposed to say at this point, with a paparazzi style press entourage hounding him, microphone in face, all while TAMU hasn't even left?!

"Yes, the Big 12 allows our university all of the amenities that it holds dear for football while really sticking it to those B1G morons...and we are announcing our intention to join the Big 12 right now so that TAMU has a freebie out of the league."

:v_SPIN:

I am worried, however, about those reports about BYU wanting to be like ND and how they affect their entrance.

Maybe you should wake up from the coma you have been in for years... Notre Dame making any kind of move would have a dramatic impact on conference realignment. Obviously it is a sensitive issue and he handled it perfectly. At this point in time... nobody can even say for sure that A&M will in fact go to the SEC opening up a spot in the Big XII so I doubt anyone at ND would say anything differently. For you to claim that there is no chance of a ND to the Big XII move being possible is very naive.

Had he said everything except this:

"Our priority — and our clear priority — is maintaining our football independence and continuing to build our relationship with the Big East with our other sports."

I'd agree with you. Everything else is kinda non-committal, but that one's pretty clear to me. However, I will say that 'pretty clear to me' really doesn't mean much. As has been said over and over, this is all speculation. We're all just picking our ponies.
