Read that article before this posting. Nothing in it I haven't read before. Seems to me ESPN execs are the ones behind this whole mess using UT as their straw-man (albeit a willing one), so who's abusing their power? If it wasn't for ESPN, UT would be more-or-less a co-equal partner in the Big 12 as the money split has evened out dramatically.

I truly believe that ESPN pushes their own agenda more then FOX news, or Disney and MTV with all of their shows about teenage sex.

They vitually decide who wins the Heisman, the entire Micheal Vick saga including the new ESPN The Mag, while also never mentioning that they were behind the "decision" while ripping apart LeBron(who only agreed to do it for charity)

Wow, my first rant on CF. CPR would be SO PROUD!

Good point on "The Decision". It was a stupid move by LeBron and turned millions of people who liked him or didn't care into people who hoped for him to fail.

But ESPN pretty much was a willing beneficiary of the whole thing, then their commentators got to spend the next year bashing the guy for his stupid egomaniac jerk off special...that they facilitated.

It's the same thing with conference realignment, the Longhorn Network, etc... they don't care about the outcome, as long as they exclusively profit from televising whatever should surface.

I believe ISU will apply to the Big 10 if the Big 12 blows up; that's a natural fit. If the Big 10 says no, then the Big East. If Mizzou applies and is accepted to the Big 10 then ISU's chances increase as that conference probably would expand to fourteen; ISU would be a logical choice more than KU, or KSU. Mizzou's desires are almost exclusively on joining the Big 10. If the Big 12 dissolves, by logical reasoning Mizzou will apply to the Big 10, and I believe ISU can join with them.

I think if things dissolve in the Big 12, you are on the right track, but I see a lot more happening. The Pac 16 forms with OU, OSU, Texas and Tech. aTm would bounce to the SEC, with a lot of things happening with the Big East and ACC. I can see the SEC taking three from the ACC, and the remainder of ACC and Big East forming a 16 team conference with the addition of ND. That would then leave ISU, Mizzou, KU and KSU as the obvious choices for the Big 10 (16). The other senario would have Mizzou to the SEC, and then only 2 from the ACC to the SEC. The remainder of the ACC and Big East would be at 16 and then ND would join ISU, KSU and KU in the Big 10.

Personally, I would prefer to see the Super Conferences with mostly strong and a few weaker/smaller schools. Pac 16 with WAC and MWC additions. The Big 12 with Conf. USA and MWC additions. The Big 10 with Conf. USA and Possible MAC additions. The SEC, The ACC and the Big East into two Super Conferences or all add from Conf. USA and MAC with some rearranging to form three Super Conferences. I think 6 Super Conferences is possible with the remainders having fun with the FCS schools (sorry Sun Belt). I truly think the schools, the rivalries and interest would be there to support it. It basically leaves 96 schools which is a good number for Basketball, and seems to be a good number to break down for a playoff. Teams like TCU and Boise who have done their work the last ten years to get on the national stage stay in the mix and there is potential for the likes of Fresno, Hawaii, NIU, Temple, and others to come along. Some have solid Basketball programs as well as general academic and athletic success and should be included even if they don't have the football tradition. That seems to always be the case for why Vandy has stuck it out in the SEC anyway.

We will see how committed Texas is to the Big 12 surviving. BYU will join if they feel all the remaining schools (mainly Texas and OU) are committed to the conference for the long haul and have some sort of written contract.

If they get a sense that schools will have wandering eyes and bail whenever they can, it's over.

Not that this is anything we didn't expect, but:

Report: Texas A&M to withdraw from Big 12 - NCAA Football - SI.com

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/30/s...o-withdrawing-from-big-12.html?_r=1&src=rechp

The SI article actually cites the NYT article, but both broke last night after sources confirmed (as all of the plane tracking conspirators on the site already figured out ) that TAMU has delivered its walking papers to the conference - Looks like TAMU is officially gone.

I would expect the "New Schools to the Big 12" rumors to really heat up. If the Big 12 has TAMU's exit papers in its hand, it needs to add some schools immediately so that announcers don't talk all year long (during the college football season) about the crumbling Big 12 - it needs to add a strong school, and fast.

Problem is, BYU has some outrageous stipulations and ND has more or less already said no.

IMO, there really is no way that Texas and some others bolt for the Pac-12. I really don't see the advantage. There are options out there that will actually replace aTm pretty well. And give the Big 12 a bigger footprint.

The most likely player IMO, would be BYU. A pretty strong Athletic Department with a national name and following. I am sure the discussions have been made. BYU is independent in football and competes in the West Coast Conference, which is a collection of small universities, for other sports. IMO, the competition in that conference is lacking and BYU just joined in 2011. So there really isn't any sort of long term relationship. And the Big XII would not really be giving the impression of "Poaching" teams from other conferences. IMO, that is an important consideration at this point.

That would put us at 10 teams. And probably keep the TV contracts in play at the level we are at. At this point I really don't see the need to go to 12 teams. In fact, I think we are better off without the Conference Championship game and getting the additional BCS game each year.

aTm may think they have done a great thing. But truthfully they have just decided to become the whipping boy of the other teams in the SEC while opening up the Texas recruiting territory to the SEC.

Face it. It is Texas and Oklahoma who the Networks really want in our TV packages. That is the way it is. Nebraska didn't like it and left. Colorado panicked. And aTm is jealous and feels ignored so they are bailing. Good riddance.

And I would make aTm pay the FULL penalties. No negotiations on lowering the price.

If BYU joins the league will survive = 100%

If BYU decides to remain Indy & Beebe suggests a Houston/SMU. Texas/OU will walk

If this is true, then I think BYU has no reason to say no. It seems that they're biggest concern is stability above all else.

What if Beebe suggests some sort of Big East raid?

Alright.. The race is on, if the Big 12 wants to get this negative light off of them we need to at least add the 10th team within the week (preferably within the next 24-48 hours). You have to believe that we have a plan lined up so that once the papers are official we have other papers to BYU and whoever ready to sign...

Let more rumors begin!! Now it really gets fun...

Well boys its official today atm 2 the sec...

Well now that the aggies gave us the middle finger, if the big 12 canNOT convince at least BYU to join then its time.......

I would say High Time that Jamie Pollard get off his duff and start calling every conference commissioner and asking for admittance....

If Jamie P plays the waiting game ISU will be relegated to the wac or the mac and good bye athletic department...

Unless of course you want to use the Drake model in football and draw 1500 fans per game...

Get Crackin' Jamie because the dominoes are starting to fall....

Yep, the B12 absolutely needs to make an example of them to show the other children how to share and play nice.

Either way, I honestly see no scenario where Iowa State gets left out in the cold here. We will be playing major college football when the dust settles. I hope it is in the new, stable Big 12 conference

While I'm sure Jamie is involved, it would actually be the school president that is in charge of most of this stuff... So you should be telling President Geofry to get going!

Conference switches do not happen overnight. (As we have just witnessed.) There would be significant smoke before the fire. I haven't heard enough from any camp to indicate there will be an announcement in the short term on this, except perhaps with BYU, and even then there isn't much stuff out there solidly sourced to go on.

I am worried we are going to have to endure the discussion of a zombie Big 12 all football season.

Some byu people on twitter are saying the big 12 has sweetened the deal this morning. Something about getting Fox on board. Spafoo and Byudeepthrowt are the ones that tweeted, if you want to look it up.

We will never, ever, ever be allowed in the Big 10. Some of you on this board are insane.

I agree 100% Mr Palmer anyone that thinks that we gain admittance to the big 10 has got MUSH for BRAINS.....

We bring nothing to the table in the way of additional TV sets and thats what this is all about people...

Its time for a wake up call and time for Jamie Pollard to get a calling and see where we can land if Texas and Oklahoma bolt for the Pac 12, who incidentally still want both of those schools....
