Renting an RV and heading to Ames on Friday night. Our plan is to park in Vet Med on Friday, move to the student lot early on Saturday, have a few questions.

1. Do we need to hustle after work on Friday to get to Vet Med? Do the RV spots fill up? Can we have a leisurely meal at Hickory Park and then head to Vet Med?

2. When we move from Vet Med to the student lot, think they'll ding us again? Probably, and it isn't a deal breaker for us, just wondering.

3. Can we leave the RV overnight in the student lot? I know I've left a car there a few times so I assume the same rules apply to an RV, but anyone ever done this?

GO CYCLONES!!!

you may want to check ahead of time because they are not allowing any RV/Trailers in the Vet Med lots this weekend. Trying to open up more parking. FWIW

Not an expert but I am pretty sure you have to park on the side of the road lining up waiting to get in which is usually around 3am I think.

Where did you hear this? Do you have a link? I think there are going to be a lot of displaced RVs/busses on Friday night if this is the case and they haven't sent out any announcements.

If I recall correctly, I saw signs up last week that said "Unattended vehicles will be towed."

I have heard they may allow you to park in the far grass of Vet Med but not on the paved part of it. Otherwise, usually there is a big line already by 9pm across the road from Vet Med in the grass lot that they hold everyone and start filling the student grass lot at around 3am. No tailgating allowed at all either which means no grills, games, etc allowed to setup until they move everyone around.

In past years they have used the Vet Med lot and then in later years the grass lot across S. 16th from Vet Med for the lineup. You didn't have to pay right away to get in there, but at some point they came around and got our money. Your vehicle has to be attended. I haven't seen any unattended vehicle get towed, but I haven't really noticed anyone pushing it either. Then at oh-dark-thirty they moved vehicles into the grass lots south of Elwood. (I know, but it is still Elwood to me.) We did this several years with our bus.

By the way there were a heck of a lot of vehicles already lined up before dark in years past. They do try to take vehicles into the lot in order that they lined up.

I just talked to ISU ticket/parking, talked to a lady who said she's the person to answer parking questions. She said Vet Med will be open at 5:30 on friday as usual.

For Friday Vet Med parkers, will it fill up? Are we ok if we show up at 7? At 8?

Usually like the Oklahoma land rush. First come first serve. The sooner you get in line (wherever they set that up) the better off you are. The last time I had to do that there was no over night. Would be best to contact the ISU athletic office about this.

Does anyone know what time we should head over to any of the grass lots? We just have a regular truck/car. What time will it fill up do you think?

Traffic and parking is an absolute mess for the Iowa game so the sooner the better. I remember waiting in line over an hour just to park several years ago and that was around 7am. Like many have said, there are already several hundred cars, buses, and RVs lined up Friday night just to get into the student grass lot and they start filling that around 3am usually.
