Bryan Fischer: "SEC statement on (sort of)…" « Deck.ly

SEC statement on (sort of) accepting Texas A&M as a member: After receiving unanimous written assurance from the Big 12 on September 2 that the Southeastern Conference was free to accept Texas A&M to join as a new member, the presidents and chancellors of the SEC met last night with the intention of accepting the application of Texas A&M to be the newest member of the SEC. We were notified yesterday afternoon that at least one Big 12 institution had withdrawn its previous consent and was considering legal action. The SEC has stated that to consider an institution for membership, there must be no contractual hindrances to its departure. The SEC voted unanimously to accept Texas A&M University as a member upon receiving acceptable reconfirmation that the Big 12 and its members have reaffirmed the letter dated September 2, 2011.

You know, if Baylor was made promises by the rest of the league that we would add a team and stay together, but they needed to agree to A&M departing first, and then you have Oklahoma's president openly saying they're looking at the the Pac 12, I don't think you can really blame Baylor here. You can blame OU, but Baylor is simply looking out for its very survival.

I agree. Who care about perception when you finally have a premeire basketball team and a football team on the rise and are about to be in the mountain west.

This is exactly right. If it turns out that we don't have a good place to land, people's heads will explode because we didn't sue the **** out of A&M/SEC and at least take what we could before we got shut out. We're all assuming that we have a nice landing spot because we waived our right to sue. Baylor doesn't have a place to land.

Exactly. If the Big 12 letter was sent to the SEC on 9/2, it was probably drafted during the previous couple of days, and commitments from the nine schools not to sue the SEC were garnered earlier in the week. Then, about mid-day on Friday, 9/2, OU's Boren starts spouting off about going to the Pac-12, and the weekend is filled with stories about OU+??? to the Pac-12 and the death of the Big 12.

Something had to change in order for one school to withdraw their waiver.

Baylor should probably be careful. The last time they ****** Aggy off this much the A&M Corps decided they should retaliate...

The biggest conflict in the war between the schools was in 1926, when an A&M cadet, Charles M. Sessums, died from injuries incurred in a fight at halftime of the A&M-Baylor game in Waco. Members of the A&M Corps of Cadets were so upset, they returned to College Station, mounted a cannon on a flatbed rail car, commandeered an engine and were going to attack the Baylor campus.

It was the first Run-and-Shoot offense in SWC history.

However, the Texas Rangers caught wind of the event and sent a Ranger to confiscate the cannon just outside of College Station.

BU's Ken Starr may threaten legal action, so A&M may have to "settle" so they can announce on Thursday.

Baylor just wants the cash, every other Big XII school has a landing spot

Every single Big XII school waived the right to sue apparently, Baylor is going back on it now for a payday

All that matters to me.
