This has been proposed before. Doubtful whether the NCAA would let them leave for football but remain for the other championships. One very prophetic meeting of the six BCS conferences led to this story:
Among the "emerging themes," according to a report provided to all member schools, was a prediction that in five to 10 years "conference affiliations and BCS affiliations may shift" and "conferences ... will increasingly break away from the NCAA."
That meeting was in 2003.

USATODAY.com - Option for top football schools: Leave NCAA

Just seems like it will have a massive impact on more than just college football and will cost a lot of universities a lot of jobs which is the last thing we need right now given the circumstances. At some point it has to be about more than just football. If not then you end up with about 10 teams each year that have a shot at a championship since they can outspend everyone else to buy players since there are no rules.

LOL, it is funny because at the landmark numbers people seem to go nuts trying to get there.

CF has bagged 1000 posts to this one thread in just over 48 hours. We can't possibly be expected to constantly pay attention to details like that.

This is a volume operation at this point.

We had better start cranking then. Who's got the second shift?

Worth listening to. Cliff notes version....

Big East guy says WTF is everyone thinking??? This is ridiculous.
Nebraska guy tries to act like it's not all about money but obviously it is!
Joe Schad says, hell yes it's all about money, everything is!

Lot's of good comments about sending student athletes 1000 miles being ridiculous and that things like TCU in the Big East makes no sense, etc. Football is one thing. You travel 5-6 times a year. Think about volleyball, basketball, softball, etc. That is A LOT of travel!!!

Do athletes get to collect frequent flyer miles or is that considered compensation? Could be good or the miles account!
Texas will have to buy their own jetliner just to move their Olympic sports teams around the country.

@THEreCREWter Beebe's individual campus visits have been completed. Hearing the meeting still on at undisclosed location in KC metro.

Can anyone track the ISU, KU, KSU, Mizzou, or Baylor planes to the KC metro tonite?

And who is supposed to cough up the money to convince OU to stay? Last year, it was A$M making cash money demands. Why do I get the feeling the Forgotten Five will be paying for this, and we find ourselves back here again someday soon....

They should have put in the "death" penalty last summer.

95% odds that that's still a fake Twitter account that is trying to come up with semi plausible rumors.

I'd guess the idea would be for Texas and the LHN to pay...or perhaps incorporate OU in the network in some way.

That may very well be the case, but if we could verify that any of the school's planes were on their way to KC he might gain some credibility.

Ours is not, via FlightAware.

Of course, it'd make sense for everyone but Baylor to drive.
