Where did I say that we were going to be invited to the Big Ten? Nowhere, didn't say that. I also didn't say they brought in Nebby on academics. I said they met the standard at the time.

There really isn't anything credible out there on any of these rumors. It's all hearsay except for the ACC stuff today I guess. It's all hypothetical and I don't understand how people will read doom with the idea that that is possible but something good happening to ISU is unreasonable.
I am arguing with someone named Yaman on a message board on a subject that has consumed my life, looking self in the mirror, time for a new hobby.

Like they did with Nebraska? You think they had no idea they were about to lose their AAU membership?

Fact:Nebraska was an AAU member when they were accepted.
CyJack assumption: The Big Ten knew they were going to lose their AAU status.

If you want to speak in pure fact, that's fine but you don't get to assume things when I don't get to.

Oh really? Would they be dilutive to the research pie? No one talks about that but there is so much more money in research than there is in football that it isn't even funny. That's not even to mention the obvious research partner we would have in just the Ag field in the Big Ten. ISU, Purdue, and MSU are all highly touted Ag schools. The Big Ten is different than other conferences. Sometimes for them, it isn't all about football.

I agree somewhat. Unfortunately the Big 10 hasn't set any precedence to help you prove your point. The Big 10 has only added 2 schools since the conference formed. Both football schools. It's not, "let's add a team that has good academics OR is good at football." It's "let's add a team that has good football AND good academics. Unfortunately we have one and not the other (historically).

Cool, glad you're going to stop.

I think there are several situations that would result in an ISU invite. One is the research angle that has already been discussed. THe other, and more probable, is if the other 3 major conferences go to 16 teams and approach the Big10 and say, look, we want to redo the BCS conference layout with our 4 conferences getting 2 bids each (or a tournament format of some sort). and in redoing the current layout, all of our conferences stand to add $50M/year. But we need you to have 16 teams or else it's not fair for our conferences since we have 16, can you expand?

Then the Big 10 says if were redoing the conference layout we want to add Pitt and Syracuse would you give them up?

Baylor averages 40,000 fans a year. If they were as geographically removed from the rest of the Big 12 as Iowa St was they'd average 25-30k. I can't imagine all the UT, A&M, Texas Tech, and OU fans who have flooded their stadium the past 15 years of the Big 12 South.

Im just thinking the Big 10 is not going to get bullied or pushed into making an expansion move. Untill Notre Dame joins a football conference that isn't the Big 10 the Big 10 will keep a spot open for them IMO

What if Beebe puts ISU in a basket, wrapped in a blanket, drops us on the Big Ten's doorstep, rings the doorbell and runs? The Big Ten is legally obligated to take us in, aren't they?!?
