If the B1G will only accept AAU member institutions, and the ESPN report that Rutgers and UCONN are the next two ACC candidates, then ISU's slim chances just improved:

Remaining AAU Schools
Texas - PAC 12?
Kansas
Iowa State
Missouri - SEC?
Notre Dame - Staying Independent or going to the PAC-12 per reports.

I understand the B1G said they were not going to consider expansion until their new contract comes up with ESPN in (2015 or 2016?) but maybe they would expand on a tier 2 deal similar to what Nebraska received where full revenue share doesn't kick in until after 3-4 years of membership, by that time the new contract would be in place. It will be interesting to see how this will play out.

UCONN & ND aren't AAU schools.

Which the network can withdraw from if the conference make up changes.

Except they can't. They can't take our money and give it to a conference that takes our teams or they face will face litigation. And perhaps that is the route they decide to go. More likely, they are hoping the b12 dies. Then they are free.

There was an article about this somewhere in this monster. I asked a friend who works in the athletic department and that is their understanding. Which is why we started work on fb building even though the conference shake-up was going on.

I think JP is fairly certain we will get some money out of this - either lawsuit if conference dies or tv contracts if it lives.

Looks to me like OU and Texas is forcing everyone else to play their cards and then the Big 12 gets who they want from the remaining teams. A&M goes SEC and the Big12 goes back to 12 teams.

Funny thing is OU boards and UT boards are now convinced they are both going to the PAC. It's like staying in the B12 isn't even a viable option.

Idiots.

I'd like to think so but I really doubt it. It's possible the Big XII will stay together but I'm worried that Oklahoma or Texas is going to bolt this week.

As part of the negotiating of the contract during the last go around with NU and CU the network got a clause in the contract that if the makeup of the conference changes they have the right to withdraw from the contract. I know this because early on in this little scuttlebutt when it was just looking like TAMU was the only traitor to their binding agreement the network confirmed that they would still honor the contract if the other 9 teams stayed intact.

Think about it, why in a negotiation for a contract where the conference is being discussed as a ship waiting to sink would any business agree to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to broadcast what could be KSU, ISU, MU, Baylor, KU, Texas Tech and a couple we need someone to add schools like Rice, Houston, Air Force and SMU. Because if there was no clause in the contract that conference make up changing then that could very well happen. No Network exec/legal department in their right mind would miss that little detail. Especially in the hugely in flux environment when the contract was signed.

I am starting to get a feeling that the Big 12 will exist long-term as the top 2nd-tier conference. The money won't be quite as good as it is now, but it will be a lot better than MAC or MWC money. I think it will be composed of the leftover Big East and Big 12 teams which will be a group of really strong athletic programs. In the long run, it will give us a chance to win championships on football and be a top-tier team in all other sports.

I thihk Texas BOR will do whatever the OU BOR does. I think Texas wants to stay but doesnt see enough avaliable to entice it to stay.

I'm not at all convinced of this. Texas would have to give up LHN in the Pac. I see them ruling the roost in the Big 12/East leftover league before I see them giving up the LHN.

I would agree with this. The only thing to be cautious of is 2 of KU/KSU/Mizzou pulling a surprise move and joining OU/OSU in the PAC. I still can't see the PAC only taking OU/OSU and I can't see OU/OSU wanting that situation of being on an island.

This I could see. I also think that if Texas stays they have to get atleast 1 maybe 2 schools from Texas into the conference if it goes to 12 or 14

Add 3 teams (assuming TX, OSU, and OU remain)

1) Louisville
2) BYU
3) AF or TCU

I like this option as it brings at least one football school that we could be on a regular basis in Lville.

After losing NU and CU, we lost a LOT of our wins in the history of the Big 12.

I don't disagree that they can rip up the contracts. My point is that they can't then pony up to the conference where these schools go. If they do that, they would open themselves to litigation. They can do one (rip up contract or pony up to new conference) but not both without some type of settlement with conference.

I'll say it again.... Big XII will survive, everyone will land somewhere. If teams get left out and put tax payers on the hook because of greedy schools then you will see congress step in and say, enough already. Either get along or you are going to have some serious questions to answer.

The KSU athletic director said he was 100% confident that KSU would be playing at the top level of college football. That's enough to give me 100% confidence that ISU will too.

Except that KSU has KU looking out for them apparently and Iowa apparenlty isn't looking out for ISU

Colorado, Utah and the Arizona schools would go ballistic. They wouldn't be in the same division as California schools anymore but with no Texas in the mix, they wouldn't have Texas recruiting either. I'm sure they'd raise a stink
