crazy idea and probably too late, but is there anything stopping someone from one of the faithful5 schools from rallying thousands of students/alumni to write in to Boren saying they casual OU fans considering donating but will no longer contribute to the athletics department of OU if they move to the PAC? I assume Boren (and other presidents) only really care about the opinion of a handful of key people, but maybe if he is flooded with email from say 10000 new "supporters" he would take that into consideration?

Anyone know how to code up a really good email spam bot? :jimlad:

I don't think there is much to this . OU and UT are looking to play UCLA, USC, Stanford pretty regularly (UCLA one year, USC the next?). OU in particular wants to recruit Cali. So if the divisons are separate and don't play except for some championship of some sort, I don't know if either OU or UT would go for that. The other way to think about it is .... is there more money in 2 conferences or 1?

I just think its funny that Boomer gets on here and claims that OU being in the PAC would be a game changer for OU recruiting. Dude, Boomer, you're ranked #1 and you've been in the top 10 like every week for the last 10 years. How much more recruiting do you need.

And does Boomer think that playing 1 game in California every year is really going to now convince all Cali recruits to come to Oklahoma?

But back to your reply, the only way I think you see 20 team conferences is if they're forced upon conferences.

MODS.....Serious question. Can conference realingment have it's own temperary forum so people can actually find something else if they are looking for it. Right now all this realignment stuff is spread from Big 12 conference, to isu football, to off topic. It's hard to follow what you want.

How exactly is it hard? Its plenty easy... almost everything is combined to a couple threads...

At least I realize we have fault too. Years/Decades of overlooking the athletics program, especially football definitely plays its part.
That's because, for all this time up until Jischke, the university presidents consistently under-valued the impact of athletics on the university as a whole; particularly FB as a major source of revenue. Athletics, for those past presidents, were an amusing diversion from the rigors of academic pursuit, so nineteenth century, and their AD hires reflected this attitude. Little in the way of facilities improvements, hiring mostly inferior FB and MBB coaches with some exceptions. Running 20th and 21st athletics departments on 19th century methods cannot work as the results have so clearly shown.

Do you have some inside knowledge? please make me feel better. I believe this is a very precarious situation for us....hope I'm wrong
Well, for one thing, ISU will not demote the athletics programs to D1 FCS (D1-AA); they will sue anybody that tries to force them to do that until the end of college athletics itself before that demotion happens. ISU will play in a FBS conference, it just may not be a premier one like the Big12. If the Big12 blows up, and the B1G and the rest of the AQ conferences decide against allowing ISU to join them, the MWC has been on public record since last year that they'd be more than happy for ISU to join them, thus the MWC would be the worst case scenario.

So chances that ESPN has been over-hyping this type of story and spinning it to try to make the Big XII fall apart are? Because they stand to make a hell of a lot of money with one less conference to pay each year.
Hence their huge conflict of interest and legal vulnerability if they do cause the Big12's demise somehow.

Not sure why people would want South Florida instead of Boise State. With BSU you get better overall athletics, much more help on AQ and a team with more national following (38 in country in merchandise sales)
Because this new conference would not allow member schools to enroll partial qualifiers for athletics in order to build academic rep along with getting in FL for recruiting. Having a footprint in both TX and FL would be huge for all non TX and FL members' athletic programs.

I spoke with a well-placed source in the Pac-12 yesterday who said they had no knowledge of OU/OSU/UT/TT deal being close to completion.

Perhaps therein lies the compromise? Whatever conference, in the end, accepts the leftovers from this disaster should be given AQ status to prevent a bunch of lawsuits?

There's AQ leagues and everyone else. No AQ would kill recruiting, donations and create a coaching vacuum sucking talent out of Ames.

We're not getting demoted simply because we're a quality AQ program with more than solid academics so there's no need to even mention mid major leagues. We don't belong there and we won't be there. Let's be rational, we have Big XII bball titles, WBB titles and wrestling titles and our football stadium is in the top half of capacity in the league, iirc. Were an AAU university also.

This demotion stuff is a media creation. Other university presidents recognize ISU's value in academics and athletics.

AQ status will be based on bowl tie-ins. Big 12 and Big East both have BCS bowl deals. Whichever league survives will keep that contract. AQ status is not in jeopardy.
