AQ status will be based on bowl tie-ins. Big 12 and Big East both have BCS bowl deals. Whichever league survives will keep that contract. AQ status is not in jeopardy.
See we all knew it was all a ruse
I've been saying it to anyone who will listen all weekend: The ACC being the aggressor is a good thing for ISU, especially if they add UConn and Rutgers as well.
So if TCU is considering not going to the Big East, that means they will stay in the MWC unless another conference comes calling. If that is the case, then hopefully the Big 12 stays together and adds TCU and other good schools or they decide to stay in the MWC and they add Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor.
East:
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
TCU
Baylor
Air Force
West:
Colorado State
Wyoming
New Mexico
UNLV
San Diego State
Boise State
Now to me this isn't as great as the Big 12 but with what is going on in the Big East currently, this looks like a pretty good option.

I spoke with a well-placed source in the Pac-12 yesterday who said they had no knowledge of OU/OSU/UT/TT deal being close to completion.

Well, he might want to do it quick as in the next few months. He may want to wait, but he may have his hand forced. If there are three megaconferences, and Delaney sits at 12 members, that would be stupid on their part. It is rather obvious we are headed to the Big 64 teams and then all the rest.I think there are several situations that would result in an ISU invite. One is the research angle that has already been discussed. THe other, and more probable, is if the other 3 major conferences go to 16 teams and approach the Big10 and say, look, we want to redo the BCS conference layout with our 4 conferences getting 2 bids each (or a tournament format of some sort). and in redoing the current layout, all of our conferences stand to add $50M/year. But we need you to have 16 teams or else it's not fair for our conferences since we have 16, can you expand?
Perhaps therein lies the compromise? Whatever conference, in the end, accepts the leftovers from this disaster should be given AQ status to prevent a bunch of lawsuits?
