Dan Beebe better be on the phone with the remaining Big East schools. It is his only hope to save the conference. Bring in the remaining 6 + TCU. Let OU and UT decide if they can live with that conference.

Edit: Although I think would rather bring in UCF instead of TCU. But I doubt the remaining BE schools would allow that. USF needs a natural rival in my opinion

Doesn't really tell us much. What else could GG say, really? If he is working behind the scenes with the B1G or other B12 schools it is probably under condition of anonymity.

I know, I know, I know.

But, the comments up till now have included, "we are confident Iowa State will be in a good situation when this is all over." Now it's "make sure Iowa State is positioned as well as possible when the dust settles". That's a shift in anyone's book.

I will be sick to my stomach when the sell job starts to tell us how great the MWC is, if that is how it all shakes out

Wow, thanks for the link. The NY Times did some amazing work there; or at least digging up work that others had done and summarizing it for human consumption. As I was reading through it I was constantly amazed at how much it actually lined up with the reality we are seeing. And the reality as I thought I understood it (guess I do understand it pretty well ... pats self on back). A few exceptions: Boise had a larger fan base that I was expecting; I think it surprised them too. Idaho is now a football hotbed and all eyes are glued on the Broncos. UNLV really suprised me for being in such a large city they have very few fans. Guess there are so many other things to do in Vegas nobody cares about football. In the south a couple of Florida teams surprised: USF and UCF. USF is in Tampa and UCF is in Orlando and people in Florida follow football pretty closely so there are relatively a lot of fans for schools that don't have much prestige or reputation.

But other than that it was spot on. Incredibly so. They even explain why the B1G isn't looking to expand ... they don't have too and the numbers back it up.

I would recommend that everyone look at that data because that is what is being used to slice up the pie.

Oh, there was one other surprise: Houston. We all knew Houston was not a great fit and they have a really small fan base for being in such a big city. Not sure why.

The Houston fan base is small due to area pro teams, but it might get better in a better conference. Their hunting dog might get bigger.

I just heard on the DP show that West Virginia has been rejected by the ACC and SEC.

While on the short term this may be bad due to the SEC courting Missouri, but it could end up being good for us. In the 64 team scenario, 4 teams were going to be left out from the big12 and big east. I think we just found team #1. If academics keep WVU out of the SEC, where else could they go?

I think it means the SEC is staying at 12. They are giving up on aTm because of legal threats.

Good Point. However, if the SEC was only looking for a 14th WVU wouldn't be it. But if it is a 16th they very well could be it. Now would WVU hold a grudge and not accept at that point no one knows.

Its because it was done by Nate Silver. Huge stat guy and excellent at what he does. Started out in baseball(PECOTA if you've heard of it) before moving onto politics before the 2008 election. As you can see he sometimes deviates outside politics and when he does it's typically excellent work.

Nate said it was a living document. Maybe Clone fans should submit some ballots on their way up from 30k in replies. It might look like we have more fans if we do.

I saw a tweet that said any school that has the desire and money to compete in the BCS will not be left out. I buy that.

For College Football what good does it do to shrink the amount of teams competing? None. If you take a step back and are rational, you would want to get as many schools involved as you can for as many tv sets as possible. You exclude schools you exclude fans. This is what is great about the Men's BB tourney. We enjoy underdogs and don't just want to see the same four schools every year, even though they may want it that way.

It makes sense to move to six conferences and develop a playoff from there. If the MWC and Conference USA combine and make a Super Conference that can qualify why not accept that? It would be great to get them into the picture. And get them in a playoff. A playoff with just four conferences and four geographic regions is uninteresting . Get everyone involved.

Exactly. My guess is super conferences will NOT be playing ''NCAA'' football. They will make their own type of football league. It seems like the likely and obvious next step after all of this.

The NCAA already runs a playoff. They are not involved in the BCS structure. Why wouldn't these teams just follow the NCAA structure already in place.

Having all of these schools just leave the governing body of the NCAA would be a HUGE logistical hurdle that would not happen over night or even without months if not years of negotiations and agreements. Remember how A&M was supposed to be gone over a month ago. That is one team leaving a conference, now add 64 teams leaving an association they have been a member of for decades.

Money. Running a playoff outside of NCAA would allow only the "BCS" schools to ever be associated in any kind of financial gain. 64 teams vs 120.

If this is true then OU is so stupid it is beyond belief...which would actually be par for the course in all of this crap.
