Here's a good story as well:
ESPN - OTL: Almost Infamous - E-ticket

This and the documentary really show how many losers take sports way too seriously. I know it's not unique to the Cubs, but it completely turned me off from the their team and fans. It also bothers me when they complain about losing that series, seeming to forget that someone's life was practically ruined over a game.

I don't think the lives of Cub fans would be much different had they won just 1 world series. I think the Red Sox are in a different point because they got a couple.

A single championship from nearly 10 years ago is a faint and fleeting memory for the average fan. I grew up a Buccaneers fan. The 02 NFL championship is so far in the rear view mirror that I don't really ever think about it other than when NFL network has it on America's game. 10 years later, it didn't change Tampa bay fans lives. it was awesome when it happened and then it all came crashing down.

Do Pistons fans sit around and relish that 04(?) championship team, or do they better remember the late 80's era that not only won a couple but were a really good team for a long time.

I'd be more interested in the film if Bartman was interviewed, but it should be interesting nonetheless.

"In July 2008, Bartman was offered $25,000 to autograph a picture of himself at National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois, but he refused the offer.[12] He declined to appear as a VIP at Wrigley Field. In 2011, 8 years after the incident, he declined to appear in an ESPN documentary, and he declined a six figure offer to appear in a Super Bowl commercial.[13]" (Its wikipedia but still)

Turning away some serious money to try and put it all behind him. Sadly for him of course, it'll never be forgotten by any sort of baseball fan.

The worst part is if Alou didn't jump up and down and flail his arms like a child the fan base probably wouldn't have even noticed nearly as much.

If your a Cub fan don't turn it to ESPN classic right now. The last 2 innings are painful. This and game 7 rank right up there in my most miserable sports moments.

I don't see how any reasonable person blames Bartman. The most painful part of watching this as a Cubs fan will be seeing Mark Prior. He was such a sure thing HOF type pitcher and then it all fell apart.

I agree with this. Alou should have just shrugged it off his shoulders and walked away. Instead he acted like the Cubs lost the series in that one play and that mentality got into the team's head.

Anybody remember Kerry Wood jacking one out in Game 7? That euphoria was short lived.

Not a Cubs fan

Not a Cubs fan

Not a Cubs fan.

Seriously, unless you are a pre-2004 Boston fan, you just wouldn't understand. In truth, the billy goat has nothing to do with the curse. The curse is knowing that it's going to end badly and every few years it's going to end brutally.

This is the most accurate statement about being a Cubs fan I have ever heard. I'm going to start using it if you don't mind.

Glad a Boston guy made this documentary so they could focus on Bill Buckner for the majority of the program............................

I was thinking the exact same thing. Never once did they talk about this being in the film. What the hell.

Blaming it on Bernie Mac? Putting the Scarlett letter on Bartman even though there was still Game 7? Cubs fans are insufferable...they almost deserve to have this happened to them

Fantastic show up to this point. I've been back and forth on whether or not Alou would've caught that ball. But after watching it several more times tonight, I think he would've had it. Pretty cool seeing the never-seen-before angle from the upper deck.
